I forgot to mention, I found this, although I am not 100% certain how to convert to the format that we use, and also it doesn't cover the MD-02.

https://tascam.jp/downloads/tascam/356/ ... une_07.xls

I'm going to upload a copy just in case it goes away at some point.

I have just uploaded it here:
http://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/dload ... e_id=27172

I have added an OBC column and added the device codes above the hex codes. I have also added a column called MD-CD2 for your Tascam MD-02B, but it is almost identical to the existing MD-CD1 column. Actually, there are a few entries in the MD-CD1 column that aren't in yours, so these are probably additional functions that are not on the OEM remote. Either that or they're CD-only functions.

I can use this list to generate some new upgrades.

nice. so it's literally just a straight hex to base 10 conversion and that's the format we use?

I see what you did there, the model number of my unit is not a MD-CD2 though it's a MD-02B. straight up MD deck no CD transport like the MD-CD1.

It does appear that I should try some of the MD-CD1 codes that aren't CD specific, as they do look like very similar code sets. Now I feel like I need to go back and check my work (I mean, I did anyway) as Sync, Group, and Input Sel are different between the two and that makes no sense when everything else lines up so well.

If I determine that the MD codes are the same, it looks like we could have the same upgrade for MD-CD1 and MD-02B and the CD codes just won't work for MD-02B.

One thing I am curious about, for the MD-CD1, is that they repeat all of the functions using OBCs 128-220 without changing the names in any way. I wonder if this was just a typo in the spreadsheet or if this device supports two remote ids where the 2nd id uses the 2nd set of codes? I wonder if the MD-02B is the same?

Here are all of the Tascam upgrades that I generated from that spreadsheet, plus yours and a DAT upgrade that I found in the file section.

thank you for pointing out that Tascam made DATs too... now I have an eBay search set up. Unfortunately it appears the TOTL DA-45HR is eye wateringly expensive even today; if there ever was a dip I missed it.

There are a few DA20's on there that are sold as "not working", if you think you have the skills to repair them. But even those are in the $100-200 range.

yeah if I get anything it's going to be TOTL or close to it. And at this point it's more of a collection thing than something I'll actually use regularly, so I can hold off for a deal. I probably should calm down on the spending anyway and if I do anything go ahead and fix the big Teac quad R2R like I keep saying I'm going to...

But from a JP1 point of view, do you have your remote programmed to control all of your Tascam units that support remotes?

No, because the 122B cassette deck only supports a wired remote :)

The only Tascam units I currently own are the MD-02B, 122B, and a 122 MkII that needs a new capstan motor. I also have two TEAC (same company, TEAC is Tascam is basically the pro sound brand of TEAC) R2Rs but they also only support wired remotes, none of which I have.

My house isn't big enough that walking over to push a button is a great hardship, especially when most of my preamps or receivers are not remote capable anyway.

I thought about writing "IR remotes" but that is what I meant.

Then yes, I have an upgrade for the singular piece of TEAC/Tascam equipment that I own that supports IR remote control :)
