You were posting the web addresses of the pages that contains the images, rather than a link to the image themselves. Plus, your images were WAY too big to be used on a forum because they would make the forum a million times wider than it should be. So, I copied each of your images, reduced the size, and reposted them to imgur, then edited your original post, so now they display.tajvdz wrote:They don't show up. What am I doing wrong?

I can see the pictures now. Thanks.
Regardless, my non-touchscreen Xsight have no RF settings of course since those don't have RF capability. I thought all Xsights had a Tilt switch to turn the screen on when you pick up the remote. You can even hear it rattle when you shake it.
Since UEI also makes all OEM DirecTV RF remotes, they apparently built that capability into the RF Xsights. When you add a DirecTV device and enable DirecTV RF, the remote will operate a DirecTV box directly via RF. It won't use the hub to receive RF and send IR as it does with other devices. Enabling DirecTV RF also starts a setup sequence where the user is prompted to enter the 6 digit RF ID code matching the DirecTV box and test it. I've used this feature with DirecTV and Xsight, and it works fine. Xsight can operate many RF devices directly, not just DirecTV. The setting exists to allow the RF ID to be input by the user. I figured DirecTV was a US vs. European feature difference since DirecTV didn't exist in Europe at the time at least.
I'm happy to investigate further since I've had all Xisight and Nevo models at some point, AR 18G, 15G, Color, Touch, Nevo C2 and C3. All work fine in RMIR. I can load any config from one into any other. I think the OP simply has a hardware failure given the age of the remote.
Graham, how do the other remote settings like language, brightness, timeout, etc., work? Are they stored in user data too?

Well the images didn't show up at first but they do now.mdavej wrote:Your links aren't working for me. But are both remotes touch screens?
For the record, DirecTV setting doesn't use the RF base at all.
Ok what is DirecTV RF for then? I thought it had something to do with RF. It also isn't possible to activate it. I thought the reason was that I don't have the RF extension.

That's because I fixed your post, see my comment above.tajvdz wrote:Well the images didn't show up at first but they do now.mdavej wrote:Your links aren't working for me. But are both remotes touch screens?

The normal use of RF in these remotes is to communicate with the RF extender, but as Dave explained, DirecTV devices respond to RF signals, so UEI built in DTV support into these remotes, which means, when you activate it, the remote will send the correct RF signals for a DTV device, without using the RF extender.tajvdz wrote:Ok what is DirecTV RF for then? Add a DirecTV satellite device, and you can then activate the DirecTV setting. But I don't imagine you would have any use for it unless you live in the western hemisphere and have a 20 year old DirecTV receiver.tajvdz wrote:Well the images didn't show up at first but they do now.mdavej wrote:Your links aren't working for me. As you probably know, although I wrote the RMIR support for the XSights, I have never been an actual user of them. So it never occurred to me to look if there are any user settings in the remote that are not stored in the user files of the remote (its equivalent of the E2 area in standard remotes). Now you ask, I find that there are some. The Clock, Audio, Brightness and Timeout settings do not appear to be in user files. The Language setting is there, as is the Region setting that can only be set by the user after a factory reset, as far as I am aware. To that list I can now add Tilt, which is not present in OfA Touch, and RF On/Off which I gather is perhaps ONLY present in the OfA Touch. What IS present in the user files of the OfA Touch, but NOT settable through the remote, is a setting for DirectTV RF that is four hex digits, all zeroes on my Touch. Is this the value that you can set through the DirectTV setting on the ARRX18G?mdavej wrote:Graham, how do the other remote settings like language, brightness, timeout, etc., work? You can see the contents of all the user files in a human-readable form in the XSight File Data tab of RMIR. To enable this tab, select Advanced > XSight operations > Show XSight user file data in the menus. This setting is persistent between RMIR instances. You will find the Language, Region and DirecTV RF values in the system.xcf file. Note, however, that the XSight operations item is only visible when you have an XSight setup in RMIR, either by loading a setup file or downloading the remote.

Well I was aware that the images might be too large but I wanted to change them after a preview. But that didn't work..The Robman wrote:You were posting the web addresses of the pages that contains the images, rather than a link to the image themselves. By the way my Acoustic Research remote is working for almost a day now. But I prefer the One for all because of the coating.
Only thing I regret is the USB cover. How far I have to open the remote to take it out and put it in the one for all?
Thanks for the explanation.mathdon wrote:What IS present in the user files of the OfA Touch, but NOT settable through the remote, is a setting for DirectTV RF that is four hex digits, all zeroes on my Touch. Those 4 bytes are indeed the hex for the 6 digit decimal RF ID entered by the user on the remote in some sort of reverse byte order. 999999 is 3F 42 0F 00 in the file or 00 0F 42 3F on my calculator.
You can access this setting yourself if you first add a DirecTV satellite box device. Then the setting is enabled.
I think this should not be added to RMIR since the wizard that steps you though the DirecTV setup includes some testing steps to verify the code entered is correct. I see no reason for someone to set this code in the file without testing. Besides, I think all the DirecTV boxes that used RF in this way are obsolete.
How about it being a read-only setting, so that users who have set a code through the wizard can view it in RMIR? RMIR already has a facility for read-only settings, though I think it has seldom been used.mdavej wrote:I think this should not be added to RMIR since the wizard that steps you though the DirecTV setup includes some testing steps to verify the code entered is correct. I have loaded a N America region setup, one of yours, and added a DirecTV satellite box, as DirecTV devices are not included in the Europe region. But the OfA remote does not have the DirecTV RF setting on its Settings menu, it only has RF On/Off, which is ON. When I look at the system.xcf file, the RFSetting bytes are still all zero. How is the setting wizard activated on an ARRX18G? Do you know a way of activating it on an OfA Touch?mdavej wrote:You can access this setting yourself if you first add a DirecTV satellite box device. Then the setting is enabled.

Works for me. It would be great to see those settings, if it's not too much trouble.mathdon wrote:How about it being a read-only setting, so that users who have set a code through the wizard can view it in RMIR? Adding a DirecTV device is the only way I know of.mathdon wrote:I have loaded a N America region setup, one of yours, and added a DirecTV satellite box, as DirecTV devices are not included in the Europe region. Well I was not pulling the USB cover but it broke. I didn't want to do that deliberately but now it happened not intentionally it kind of solved a problem. I have the cover on the new one for all now. I hope it doesn't fall out and get lost.mdavej wrote:Personally I've never managed to crack one open without breaking it. I suggest you live with it. The buttons or screen will fail long before the USB port.
By the ay the Acoustic Research is working just fine now. It didn't freeze for over 2 days. Also when I take out the battery and put it back in it works. Strange. But I have 2 now.
The reason I use the One For All is because it isn't sticky.
