as long as the device upgrades are created using cable mode, yes.

When we do it, we create upgrades that have all the "gap" OBCs in them, then load the upgrades into the remote and try all of the buttons. Then, when we find a button that does something, we go back to the upgrade to see which OBC was on it, and include it in the master upgrade. Having real buttons to test with is useful because sometimes it's not clear what just happened. Like, if the button switched you to CH 05, was that a CH+ coming from CH 04, or is it a discrete code to CH 05? Many buttons only work when you're in the right menu mode, so it's useful to have the OEM remote handy (or a programmed JP1 remote) that you can use to get into the various menu modes, before you start testing.
So, how did you do it?

Similarly.
I had the basic keys from a generic universal.
That told me its* protocol was NEC1, dev 0.**
I found the same brand on your list of upgrades, but a different model.
http://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/dload ... e_id=25699
Its protocol was the same, but its OBCs were different from what I had found already. I ran the upgrade anyway and noted the PD-800's reaction, tying each OBC to a function. After that, there were only four functions that were unaccounted for. I ordered the OBCs that I found already and tested those that were gaps in that list. I found the remaining four that way. For keys that were ambiguous, I tested them in different contexts. The only function that I could not confirm was the Angle key, because I have not yet found a DVD that uses it.

** I have other devices that use this protocol and there is no uniformity in function assignments like Power, the arrow keys and numbers. (It seems like the "wild west" of protocols...)

NEC1 dev 0 appears to be a generic code that OEMs can use for free, so any company that is making a low-cost device on a budget typically uses it. So yes, there is zero coordination between those companies regarding OBC allocation.
On the other hand, if you have a more mainstream device, those typically DO have a lot of alignment of OBCs between devices. Every so often, when I see someone looking for secret functions for such a device, I will download all of the upgrades for that brand and compile them into a master file upgrade.

I just created one for Magnavox DVDs (NEC1 135.34):

And one for Emerson & Sylvania TVs (NEC1 132.224):

Thanks, I added it. Interesting that they added such a menu as Pic Mode and Sound Mode have their own OBCs (129 and 130).

That page did not explain what LOOP & FLASH actually did.HamburgerHelper1 wrote:By downloading random PDF's from this page

I found in one manual
Enjoying sound effects (LOOP/FLASH)
You can repeat part of a CD (LOOP) and
can 'flash' the CD sound (FLASH) during playback...
At first, I thought that LOOP might be the audio equivalent of A-B REPEAT, but further research suggests that they are both just DJ-style sound effects.

Is there a way to create an upgrade that contains both Aiwa keys and NEC1 keys? The CD player on my Aiwa stereo is shot, so I am bringing in an external CD player through its auxiliary port.
I tried to create an upgrade via learned codes from both devices, but it said that they were incompatible.
I am prepared to keymove the CD player keys, but I was hoping an upgrade could handle it.

I already have that, but it means that I have to switch between the two for a single system. It would be easier for my non-technical wife if she could run them as a single device.Barf wrote:Is there a reason why having two device upgrades (for NEC1 and Aiwa respectivelly) is not an option?

Glitch Found On URC-3680...
When I left the Mute key unpopulated, it was randomly populated for me (upon upload). All other such keys remained unpopulated.
My workaround was to put an unrecognized OBC at that key. A copy of another key works too.
