Last weekend I added an old ReplayTV and a Yamakawa DVD-288 to my entertainment center.
After considering a new remote, I ran across the JP1 sites, soldered a connector in to my antique URC-7800, built myself an adapter cable, downloaded all the software and got it working.
At first the interface cable failed, but I had soldered 2 connections one pin over. A visual examination caught the problem.
There didn't appear to be a KM data file for the 7800 and either of these devices, so I "learned" just a few sample buttons from each device so that I could use them to see if the codes already existed in any KM data file, so that I could copy them rather than "learning" 15 at a time and transcribing them.
Sure enough, there was a Replay TV/URC-6131. Also there was a file for a slightly different Yamakawa DVD, the 218 and the URC-881x.
Loading each file into the KM spreadsheet, I simply changed the "Remote" to my URC-7800. I scanned the other tabs on the spreadsheet to make sure everything looked sane. It did.
I decided to build the DVD upgrade first. This process was the least-well-documented part, IMO. Eventually I figured it out, though, checked the "DISABLE Embedded Notes" box, and copied the codes to the "Devices" tab of the IR program.
I uploaded the results to the remote, but they didn't work.
I decided to try the same process with the ReplayTV. This time, I noticed next to the "Devices" tab, there was also a very empty "Protocols" tab. Also, in the spreadsheet for the Replay there was a big notice that I had to upload the protocol. I copied and pasted and uploaded. The ReplayTV began to work!
I pondered the DVD upgrade a bit more, and realized the "Main Device" code I had "Learned" was different from what was in the existing file, so I changed it to the "Learned" value. Bingo! Everything is golden!
I've uploaded my new text files to the Yahoo group, and I thought I'd at least post this message to say thanks, let those of you who've contributed know that you have done well enough to at least get me going, and help out anyone who might be having some of the same small stumbling blocks I had!
Best regards,

Got it all working without asking for help!

Spoke too soon, of course, but figured out the last detail.
Volume/muting punch-through didn't work on the ReplayTV setting.
Punch-through works on the old cable box setting, which I don't use any more, so I moved the ReplayTV to the CBL/SAT button, but no joy.
The ReplayTV is a "VCR" type, and punch-through still works on my old VCR.
In desperation, I even tried "learning" my receiver volume controls onto the ReplayTV, but nothing.
So, I figured maybe moving the ReplayTV to the "VCR" button might do the trick, and it did. I moved my VCR to "AUX" and it doesn't have punch-through any more. That works for me since I hardly use my VCR any more.
Good luck to all you other newbies out there!
