URC-7935 Streamer remote NA & EU codes accepted?

Post by MaskedMan »

It seems like urc-7935 Streamer remote accepts both North American and EU codes. Many times, I have someone on Roku Community ask for a code for EU tv brand, like the most recent Veon tv. I do google search find website that lists all One-For-All models with Veon codes. Like here:

https://www.eliztech.com/remotes/codeli ... es-for-ofa

They're all EU models. But my NA 7935 streamer accepts the EU codes, but they aren't listed in my manual at all. I get confirmation it accepts the code, I try the keys the remote no longer controls my tv. I enter my tv code, then try the next, again the keys don't work on my tv meaning the remote accepted the EU code. The Streamer remote only uses digits 1-6 since it doesn't have number keypad. You think it's cheaper to use one code list or chip for both region remotes?

Are you saying that, once you enter a European code into your North American remote, it switches the remote into "European" mode and it no longer accepts the code for your US TV?

As to why UEI would implement different codesets in the EU and US remotes is due to memory limitations. As EU devices generally need different codes to the US, it doesn't make sense to waste memory on EU codes in a US remote, or vice versa.

If you're saying the Streamer comes with both US and EU codes installed, perhaps that's because the codes are generally smaller, given how few buttons the remote has.

I would guess that, economies of scale would make it cheaper to make one remote for both markets, if it were possible.

The latter it accepts all codes even if they aren't listed in the North American code pamphlet. All codes list here are accepted be my three 7935 remotes:

Then that sounds like they've used the same chip for both markets, but only included codes in the manual that folks in each market are likely to need.
