Help!
Just got my cable today, and it links right up no problem....here's the hitch, though.
Using IR 5.0, On the "General" tab, it lists 4 devices, their types, and setup codes (correctly).
Under the "Devices" Tab, however, it only lists TV and Cable, not the Audio or VCR function--which is what I'm interested in changing!!
What am I doing wrong, or can it just not be changed?

The items shown on the Devices tab are upgrades that have been loaded into the EEPROM in your remote (probably by the cable company). While these can be modified, it would be an arduous task since you'd have to know all the inner workings of how all this stuff works at the binary level. Most remotes don't come with any upgrades loaded (i.e., the Devices tab is empty), but cable remotes are an exception since the cable company usually loads a customized upgrade for their cable boxes.Scott Deeter wrote:Under the "Devices" Tab, however, it only lists TV and Cable, not the Audio or VCR function--which is what I'm interested in changing!!
IR does not provide any means to extract the existing upgrades for modification. Normally, in the JP1 world, these upgrades would have been generated by KM or RM. To modify them, you'd simply load the original file into KM or RM and regenerate the upgrade for IR.
The Devices shown on the General tab show which setup codes/types are assigned to all the device buttons. The referenced setup codes may be located either in the EEPROM, or in the remote's ROM (built-in). You have no access to the built-in setup codes. JP1 only talks to the EEPROM.Scott Deeter wrote:Using IR 5.0, On the "General" tab, it lists 4 devices, their types, and setup codes (correctly).
Rather than trying to concentrate on what's in the remote already, you should look in the Yahoo JP1 group files section to see if there is an existing KM or RM upgrade for the device you want to control. If you really want to know the specifics of a particular setup code, then tell us the setup code number and type, and maybe one of the JP1 experts can provide you with the needed info.

Thank you very much! I get it now.....
I figured something was up when I connected my -2116 and it had nothing there either.
Here's a rough idea of what I'm trying to do....
I've got the VCR key set as an audio device (Yamaha CD/0036). On the -2116, the navigation keys control "next disc/previous disc" function (it's a 5 disc changer). On the Navigator remote, though, all the other functions work, but not this one. The 0036 doesn't have any advanced functions that I could find....
Is there a way to "force" that function on this remote? Or do I just need to create an upgrade from the original remote and go from there?
I really appreciate the help.

Hey Scott, what are the codes that are pre-loaded into your Navigator? I'm guessing one of them is CBL/0476. If either of them is a code we haven't seen before, I'd like to see it.

Just post the setup codes here and if I need more info I'll let you know.

The Setup key is the shift key, and yes, it does work the same as other UEI remotes. Are you by chance trying to use the shift with the digit keys? If so, then you need to press Setup twice before the digit to get the shifted function. Again, this is the same as for other UEI remotes.Scott Deeter wrote:Another question about this remote....in IR, it shows the shift key for macros etc. but the macros don't seem to work.
Is it something other than the "setup" key for shift? or does this processor just not recognize shifted functions?
