Hi, I have a 7541 and it was supplied without jp1 pins, eeprom, or c11. Could someone please post whether there are caps at c4,c5 and if j1 and j2 are jumpered or open, the code under the battery cover is urc-7541 b00 then under that is p532-ckcc zj dont know if this means anything or if it is the code for a 1k version or 2k version? Any help would be great Thanks.

You don't need c4 and c5.

As for j1 and j2 check if they are necessary to connect jp1 pins to other parts of the remote e.g. if without j2 one pin of the jp1 header is not connected with anything, then you need j2.

If you solder 1K eeprom you will have 1k version.
If you solder 2K eeprom you will have 2k version.

I have the same remote and wondered about modding it.

The C4 and C5 caps appear to be connected to the crystal, some crystals require external caps, some don't. I guess they made the PCB so they could switch suppliers based on price.

What sort of EEPROM do I need? Part numbers? Would the EEPROM from a cheap PC network card work?

Also the PCB also has holes for a transistor and a resistor that appear to connect to the JP1 connector. There also appears to be space for an SMD capacitor near the EEPROM, do I need this?

My main remote already supports JP1, but I would like to use this remote in the study but it doesn't support the TV I have.

You need an I2C EEPROM. They are usually numbered as 24Cxx, with xx being the number of kilobits of storage. The ones that begin with 96Cxx won't work.

Most of the better JP1 remotes come with a 2KByte chip, lesser ones with 1K.
(24C16 and 24C08 chips respectively)
