Device Type per Device?

Post by Wheelie4 »

I noticed that Device Types Cable, SAT and VideoACC allows for the most buttons per device minimizing needed keymoves (keymoves take up memory that OFA's don't have much of, Right?). If I used for example 8 upgrade files in RM to create my .IR file in IR.exe for a 9910, while in RM can I set each file as a Cable Device Type before pasting to IR and use All devices as Cable device types in the remote without any problems?

Without major problems. Probably not without any problems.

1) Since it's an LCD model, the device type gets displayed in the LCD when the device is selected or when a signal from it is used (by VPT etc.). I don't know whether the extender lets you fix that.

2) VPT is disabled when the current device mode has a setup code with a different device type than the default type for that mode. If that causes a behavior you dislike, you can cover it up with KeyMoves, but it then ends up as a tradeoff as you need to use KeyMoves to fix a consequence of selecting a device type you selected in order to save KeyMoves. I'm pretty sure the extender eliminates this complication.

That wouldn't matter. I doubt I'll rarely pay much attention to the LCD. I'd choose an 8 device non-LCD RF model if they had one. Extends battery life.

Hmmmm, that might pose a problem. I would like to use VPT to assign my TV's volume and mute to all devices (except my receiver).
