how to use slingbox 500 to control a pc

Post by chuliu »

I have a slingbox 500 and the pc has hdmi output.
The question is how I can use slingbox 500 to remote control the pc.
I need to control it when my teamviewer is offline or when I want to set up bios. Any such device exists?

Thank you.

Do you currently have any way to control your PC with a remote today? If you can, then I think all you would need to do is add an upgrade for the device that you're using to the Slingbox and it could do it too.

I don't know what PC control methods are available today, but once upon a time there was a device called Streamzap that did it, and I created an upgrade for it here:

The Streamzap site is still there:

Amazon doesn't sell it anymore, but I see them on eBay, here's one for $9:

Someone else may jump in with more modern ways to control a PC with a remote.

Thanks. I will buy one or two of these to see how well they work.

A bit late to the party, but any luck? I've been interested in similar endeavors lately and it'd be encouraging to know someone else got it running. Was StreamZap a viable option?

I ended up not buying it. I had a feeling it won't work for some reason.
I ended up using a remote power switch to power cycle the pc and set in bios, restore ac power loss to power on. When I power cycle it, it will boot up the pc from power off state.

For setting up the bios, I haven't found a solution.
