Total newbie trying to progam URC-1210 for Cyrus Tuner

Post by Cyrus1210 »

Hi All,

I am more than beginner here but I am learning.
My problem:
I have a Cyrus tuner (the first model having RC) which works only with remote control... and the latter is lost!
I bought a One for all URC-1210 universal remote control (because I know it should work with this device model).
I have all RC-5 codes for this tuner from the manufacturer but I don't understand how to program them with the remote.
I do understand that I have to press "magic/setup" button, it blinks twice and then...
But I missing the big picture...
I have the feeling that I have first to find some similar device using RC-5 codes as well and the use the keymove feature 994 to assign it to fitting keys .
But I don't know which other tuner uses this protocol and could be well-known to be pre-recorded in the memory list of my URC-1210.
In other words...
I think I have to recreate one by one all functions and assign it to a button on the remote (because my tuner is not listed and pre-recorded on the one known by the URC-1210), correct ?
Or I am totaly misleading ?
But how to start with ?
e.g. I want to assign the volume-up (code rc-5 = 16) to the volume touch of my RC.

Thanks a lot

Laurent

here is the RC-5 original code from Cyrus manufacturer:

Reading between the lines, it sounds like, even though you posted this in one of the JP1 forums, you're not really using JP1 to program the remote, am I right?

In which case, the normal procedure it to, first find a setup code in the manual and then program it to a device button. But in this case, I don't see Cyrus listed in the code list, so the next option is to use the 991 search method also described in the manual.

Looking at the RC5 list that you posted, the important thing to take note of is not that the code for VOL+ is 16, but rather the device code for all the buttons is 17.

The main setup codes that I see that use RC-5 dev 17 are:
Audio/0189
Audio/0222
Audio/0275
Audio/0642
Audio/1120
Audio/1214
Audio/1978
Audio/2677
TV/0405
TV/1397
TV/4501 *
Video/0189

And the only one of them that I see in your remote is TV/4501, so give that one a shot. I don't know if the buttons are lined up properly, if some work but others need to be re-programmed using 5-digit EFC codes, here's the list that you posted converted into EFC codes:

00173 - 0
00205 - 1
00109 - 2
00141 - 3
00045 - 4
00077 - 5
00237 - 6
00013 - 7
00172 - 8
00204 - 9
00076 - Review
00207 - Store
00078 - FM/AM
00014 - Manual
00177 - Volume +
00209 - Volume -
00208 - Store
00115 - <Seek
00051 - Seek>
00018 - Standby

I just posted the codes from the Cyrus Tuner column, if you think you need the codes from the RC5 Tuner column, I can post those too. If the volume +/1 button codes above don't work, try 00175 and 00207 instead. If those work, then it looks like you need the RC5 Tuner codes instead of the Cyrus codes

Hi Rob,

I don't know how to thank you :D
And yes indeed, I posted it at the wrong place. I didn't notice, I am sorry.
Nevetherless, I want to give you feedback.
Yes, you're great !!! it worked, not totally bust mostly.
Indeed, I had to re-program almost all keys.
To answer your question, I have to use the Cyrus code (not the RC-5).
And I still have few questions:
- How did you translated the code from Cyrus into 5-digit-EFC ?
- The button "STORE" react weirdly, could it be a mistake ?
- linked to the above, I discovered that 3 codes/keys are missing and not discribed in the list I provided (there is maybe then a mismatch with the STORE button and could be DISPLAY):
I miss the 3 functions:
- button "MONO"
- button "MUTE"
- button "DISPLAY"

How can I retreive them, I mean the EFC codes?

Thanks again, you resurected my tuner, because it cannot work without remote (No buttons on the case)... very stupid.

Have a nice day Rob

Kind Regards from Switzerland

Here's what I did, I used the RMIR program, which is the main program that we use to program our JP1 remotes. The device upgrade part of that program is called RM, we use that to create new upgrades for our devices. I selected the RC-5 protocol and entered 17 as the device code, then I went to the functions tab and entered all the functions from your list, along with their OBC codes (that's the number that's different for each function). RM will then calculate all the EFC codes, which it displays mainly as an FYI. I would expect that your missing functions use one of the codes where there's an RC5 function listed with no Cyrus function listed.

As for STORE, there were 2 STORE functions listed, one with 00207 and one with 00208, so did you try both?

I have created a JP1 upgrade, just for any JP1 users who might stumble across this thread:

Also, if you have any interest in programming this remote using JP1, I believe it has a JP1 connector because we did have someone ask about it before but they dropped the ball with it. If you were to buy an FTDI FT232RL cable you could try it with the remote. You can get them on ebay for under $10 USD shipped. I would still need to build you an RDF for it, which I'd be happy to do.

There's more info on the FTDI cables here:

Thanks Laurent, I have updated the JP1 upgrade that I created earlier as that is what would be most helpful to any other JP1 user here.

Feel free to load the files you mentioned into the Diagnosis Area and then post a link to them here and I'll take a look at them.

To load a file:
1. Scroll to the top of the page and click on the File Section link
2. 3rd item down is the Diagnosis Area, click on it
3. In the upper portion of the screen, below the FAQ, etc links are buttons, 2nd from the right is UPLOAD, click it
4. Fill in the data and select your file, then click ADD FILE.
5. Once it's loaded, click the File Section link again
6. Scroll down to the Diagnosis Area again, then look over to the right, in the "Last File" column, you will see a link to your new file.
7. Right-click on the file and select "Copy Link Address"
8. Come back to this thread and "Paste" (CNTL+V) the link.
