Receivers are usually pretty tolerant so in all likelihood it doesn't matter, but sometimes they change suppliers and the new units are more fussy than the old units, so it's always best to match if you have the option to do so.

That brings up the related question: do we assume that the IR timing coming out of the Harmony remotes (based on their device database) is always most accurate and can (or rather should) be used as a reference for JP1 upgrades?

When it's all we have to go on, I would have to say yes. Look at it this way, UEI noticed that there are 3 different leadout times used for this signals, so they programmed their executor to handle them all.

What I meant was more like whether Harmony have links to the manufacturers and therefore are basing their upgrades on formal specifications, or Harmony's guess (for leadout time, for example) is as good as ours here.
Just curious more than anything else. Understanding that there may be no known answer to this Q.

I expect that Harmony bases all of their upgrades from learning the signals from the original remote, either something they did themselves back at the factory, or from user learns. They do have some sort of program where people can learn the buttons from their original remotes and load them up to their web site and they convert them into upgrades for the remote, which is a pretty cool way to build your database.
