Try select Remote -> Interface -> JP1.X Serial

No, that won't work. You must have this JP1 EEPROM adapter:
http://www.diygadget.com/jp1-1-1-1-2-1-3-cables/jp1-2-1-3-to-jp1-adapter.html

AND some sort of serial cable with the appropriate signals (not sure if your Startech is appropriate), preferably FTDI. I recommend this one:
