2117 & dish pvr 508

Post by B_MAN »

Hello All, Im having trouble controlling my Dish Network PVR 508 with my RS-2117, I have to press buttons on remote 2 or 3 times to actually get a channel to change. All other components work well, I have RF commander and IR repeater inside glass cabinet and PVR 508 sits outside on top of my TV. I had the 508 inside with all components in front of the IR repeater and was still not working properly. Is there a set up code that can help? any of you ever had this problem? thanks in advance for all your suggestions.....

There seems to be a rather common problem with OFA remotes sending signals that are of too short a duration for Dish/Echostar receivers. I'm not sure whethere this is only true for signals embedded in macros, or generated by an upgrade, but my experience is it is quite infuriating.

The most reliable solution (as far as I can tell) is to build a device upgrade for your Dish using the device combiner protocol (which allows you to set the duration for each function independently), and set the duration for the Dish signals to at least 3 (or 4) to get reliable results.

This thread discussed this relatively recently.

I just created a new Dishplayer protocol that can call either device 0 or 16 (used for some PVR functions). I set the protocol to do a minimum of 5 repeats anytime that it is used in a macro or a key press. It is about half the size of using the Device Combiner and has a single variable byte.

I don't have any dish gear so my limited testing looked like it worked but that wasn't in the real world. So you might give it a try.

I was looking at the other thread, basically, the problem seems to be that the duration of the signal from 2117 to pvr 508 is too short. all I have to do is extend that signal to a longer duration. Where can I get that information?

I just added the link. Any way that you increase the repeat duration will require a protocol upgrade. The one I created is reasonably efficient and may solve a problem on a number of Dish PVR's. The device upgrade file should have every command used in Dish/Dishplayers. All you do is set it for the 2117 and upload the protocol and device upgrade.

I also enclosed my protocol builder file and the number of repeats can be changed, but you would probably best tell me what your experiences are and I can adjust it and make the changes for everyone.

ok, when I change channels, or want to view anything using my pvr 508, I have to press the buttons on 2117 at least twice to work. the link you provided is a little too technical for me. If I understand correctly, the general idea is to upgrade my 2117 so I can extend the signal, but in order to do that, the language used must also be updated? can I trouble you to give me a step by step process? thanks in advance.....
