beginner help with replay remote

Post by nferreri »

Hi guys,

I'm new to the whole JP1 thing and was wondering if I could get some assistance with my frist upgrade.

I have a replay remote that came with my Replay 5504 and I would like to change the volume buttons to control the volume on my Technics SA-GX190 receiver. Also, it might be nice to find a way to map the power for the receiver onto the remote as well.

I guess I'm just a little confused what I need to be doing to get this thing to work. I read through a couple of the newb guides but I'm still a little confused as to what needs to be done.

Thanks!

If making the volume buttons, and the TV-POWER button work your stereo receiver would be sufficient, then all you need to do is download an upgrade file for a Techics receiver and re-configure it for the R5k remote.

Anything over and above that starts getting alot more comlicated with this remote.

How would I do that exactly?

I got a cable and plugged it into my parallel port and attempted to download the stuff from my replay remote but nothing seemed to happen.

If/when I get this working, is it difficult to reconfigure the technics upgrade to just overwrite a couple buttons on the replay remote?

After playing around with IR a bit more I noticed the only thing it really does is overwrite the code for Replay under the general tab. There is also a TV entry but that stays with all 0's.

It was my understanding by clicking on the download from remote button it should populate the general window with all my buttons and codes, right?

I don't get any error messages or anything... The check interface under tools says everything is fine... I guess I'm just missing something?

Then you're understanding is incorrect. When you download from the remote, IR.exe shows you everything that's programmed into the EEPROM. By default, the R5k remote doesn't use any upgrades, so all you will see are the setup codes assigned to the 2 device buttons. You won't see the codes assigned to the individual buttons as they are part of a setup code that's built into the ROM.

If you were to create an upgrade yourself and load it into the remote's memory, then you would see the codes assigned to each button.

In this case, you probably don't need to mess with the Replay configuration, all you want to do is create an upgrade for your receiver and pretend it's a TV code, then load it into the remote and assign it to the TV device button.

Ya, I guess I'm understanding this better now from playing around with it.

I read over this thread:
https://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=273

Which you were so kind as to provide upgrade code to remap the volume and power keys... I've been playing around with the spreadsheet trying to find the appropriate codes but still am not able to figure out what I need.

Could you possibly help me out a bit with an upgrade code? :)

Hmm...

Okay, here's what I've done so far:

I downloaded this Device Code:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/jp1/files ... -GX330.txt

I removed all the key assignments except volume up, down, and power. I changed the device type to TV. Then, I took the upgrade code and pasted that into IR.

Before I pasted it into IR I had it download from the replay remote. Then, went over and added this device code. Then, went back to the general tab and assigned code 0039 to the TV and uploaded to the remote.

Still no luck. :(

I just did what you say you did, and here's the upgrade I ended up with, does this look like what you got?

Upgrade Code 0 = 00 27 (TV/0039)
00 00 51 B4 B4 B4 27 A7 E7 07
End

Download your remotes memory into IR.exe, then paste this upgrade into the devices tab, then assign TV/0039 to the TV button, that should do it.
