Nevo C3 - No Remote Found
I just picked up a Nevo C3 and for some reason RM IR will not recognize it. It has no problem recognizing my Xsight Touch (I bought the Nevo C3 as a backup), but it does not recognize my C3. Can anyone please help. I am using the latest version. The software reports "no remote found" no matter what I do. The remote does connect with EC RC and has been upgraded to the latest firmware.

mdavej,
(If you are still checking this thread) I am attempting to setup a Nevo C2 (signature usb8006) which I assume is similar to Xsight. The EZ-RC website doesn't seem responsive and says

I have the RDF and can upload and download from the remote, and install device upgrades using RMIR. Is it practical to setup the Activities and soft keys using only the remote and RMIR? My first tries don't get past the Assist screens. The Nevo line of control hardware has been discontinued and is no longer supported

Mdavej knows more about this remote than I do. I'm not sure what he is saying is a symptom of old firmware, but in principle the answer to your question is Yes. It is practical to do everything via RMIR that can (could ?) be done via EZ-RC (except update the firmware, of course.)

Dave, thanks for replying. Your question has me thinking that maybe the problem is related to my computer setup more than to the remote. I will try to sort that out. I'm on a Mac running Yosemite.
I don't know what the Conduit program is.
When I go in Safari to the EZ-RC website, where I do have an account, it simply does not respond to the [Login] button. If I go over to the dark side and try Internet Explorer, it does log in, but then does not respond to the [Connect] button. If I select Help at that point, I get the Nevo not supported message. It might be that I have a USB connect issue from within Windows XP. I will keep checking out that part and post here again. Thanks.

In another forum, someone mentioned version 10 of Parallels working with EZ-RC when earlier versions didn't.
EZ-RC only works in IE, and only in compatibility mode (sorry). EZ-RC won't work on a Mac outside of Parallels.
The Conduit software is required for EZ-RC to communicate with the remote on a PC (or in Parallels). If it doesn't download and install automatically, you can get it here:
http://voxxintlcorp.com/firmware/exe/co ... .0.222.zip
By "symptom of firmware", I mean there was another user recently with the same issue (Assists showing up in spite of being blank). Updating the remote to the latest firmware fixed the issue. I suspect the memory might be organized a little differently in older firmwares, hence RMIR causes some strange things to happen.
If you've ever used a Harmony, it has a Help system, so that if any commands sent by an activity macro are missed, pressing Help will send them again, one after the other, until the issue is fixed. "Assist" works similarly, but presents you with lists of commands to retry at will. I don't use the Assist feature myself, so I just leave them all blank. When you update your firmware, "Assist" will no longer appear if the lists are blank.
Activities are just macros plus key group mapping. If you are familiar with using extenders on your other JP1 remotes, set_vol, set_chan, etc. are equivalent to the assignments at the bottom of the activities tab. Then just add commands to the activity macro as you would any other macro (adding power and input commands). Variable delays are built into each command, so separate pause commands are not necessary. When you press the activities button on the remote (3rd button from the left under the LCD), you get your list of activity macros. Pressing the corresponding button on the LCD runs the macro and sets the key groups.
Typical activities would be Watch TV, Watch Movie, Listen to Music, Play Game, etc. The activities in my main room, for example, are Watch TV, Watch Roku, Watch BD, Play Xbox, Play Wii, Play PS3, Good Night (master power off). Watch TV, for example, turns on my TV, PC and AVR and sets the appropriate inputs and starts media center in Live TV mode. The key group mapping is set to PC for all groups except volume, which is set to AVR.
EZ-RC does all of the above for you by asking questions, similar to the way Harmony software works. I recommend you try it if possible so you get a better understanding of how the remote works. It's quite different from other JP1 remotes.

Dave, I agree with you that using EZ-RC to get an understanding of the remote would help me. That's why I started there, but no luck so far.
Where I am now is that I can communicate with the Nevo C2 on the Mac side with RMIR with no problems. I just need to understand the remote.
On the Windows XP side, I can communicate with all my JP1, JP1.3, JP2 remotes without issue. But not the USB connected Nevo. I get the dreaded "Remote not Found" message, which is no doubt why the EZ-RC site doesn't work in IE. I have confirmed that Conduit is installed, probably automatically at some point, and the tray icon is present. I will keep trying to get the site to work.
As for RMIR, do you have a .rmir file with activities set up that you could post as an example of how to configure things? Thanks.

As I said before, there was a report elsewhere that Parallels 9 didn't work but 10 did. No guarantees that's your issue though.
Does the conduit tray icon ever turn green when the remote is connected?
In RMIR, did you try selecting Remote - Interface - CommHID?
There's still some good info on the Xsight support site (FAQs, manuals, etc.):
http://www.acoustic-research.com/support/?kw=ARRX18G
(nearly everything for the ARRX18G applies to all other models: 15G, C2, C3)
If you can find any actual PC at all to use, the F/W update only takes a few minutes, then you can go back to RMIR on your Mac.

With XSight-like remotes, you get "No remotes found" if there is no RDF for the remote. That differs from other types of remote, where it will tell you there is no RDF for signature starting something or other.
Do you know the USB PID for the Nevo? PID here is the Product ID and is paired with a VID (Vendor ID). Instructions for finding these values with Windows are given here:
http://controllermax.com/forums/showthread.php?t=141128
The signature for an XSight-like remote is "USB" followed by the PID. The RDF for the Nevo is "USB8006 (Nevo C2).rdf" as the PID for the Nevo's we have seen is 8006. You should check that you have this RDF, and if you do, then check that your Nevo does have the PID 8006. If it is any other value, make a copy of the RDF and change the name accordingly.

Hey Graham,
Everything seems to be matched:
RDF: USB8006 (Nevo C2).rdf
PID: 8006
VID: 06e7
Xsight UEI
I think I have too many layers of abstraction here:
RMIR build 16 running in
Java 8 running in
Windows XP SP3 running in
Parallels 9 running in
OS X 10.10 Yosemite
I think I should just dig out my old IBM Thinkpad laptop until I sort this out, at least through trying to update the Nevo firmware. Thanks,
Bruce
