Hello All,
I'd like to please ask that someone help straighten out my confusion. (please?)
I've been working on upgrading my older setup to a new setup. I have been using a URC 8811 remote that I set up using KM and IR years ago with some success. As of 2013 I had a nice setup with the 8811 controlling all of my HT devices which are connected through a Yamaha Aventage RX-A3000 Receiver. The A3000 has a great features "scenes", that allow you to switch to a source and configure all of the settings around that source with one button. There are 4 scene buttons on the remote and the ability to use another 7 scenes with the onscreen menu. There are discrete codes available for all of those scenes. I've taken advantage of that and created a custom upgrade that has all those discrete codes, so that I could create a simple macro for each activity that included turning on the TV and the Receiver, as well as switching to proper scene. It worked great for many years, my wife was happy with the setup, etc.
Now, the 8811 has started failing on several frequently used buttons. I've bought a nice shiny 6440 from eBay in the UK (I'm in the U.S) and loaded it up with the 6440 Extender 1.00. I'm using it with RMIR 2.03 Alpha 28. It works great, updating it is easy with the USB connection, and it runs all of my old upgrades just as I would expect, EXCEPT for my custom A3000 one needed to control the scenes. When I try to load it, I get an error message "The selected protocol "NEC 4DEV Yamaha Combo (01 1A:JP1) is not compatible with the selected remote. This upgrade will not function correctly. Please choose a different protocol."
So, I did a bunch of forum searches and found a bunch of threads discussing the protocol differences that Yamaha is using for these extended functions in the OEM remote and codes. Based on that I've attempted to run a number of the included protocols with my existing custom upgrade including "NEC 4DEV Combo" but I'm not even sure if that it built into the extender or RMIR. I also tried as couple of times to import the protocol from my custom upgrade separately, because I wasn't sure if it was coming over with the upgrade when I added it to my current RMIR file. I've posted a ZIP with my RMIR and the Receiver's RMDU file in the diagnostics area:

Many thanks in advance,

The issue here is that the 6440, like most recent UEI and OFA remotes, is made with a Maxim MAXQ microprocessor. The NEC 4DEV Yamaha Combo (01 1A:JP1) executor was written for Samsung S3F80 and S3C80+ processors, and we haven't yet written one for the MAXQ. I should be able to write the executor, but it may take a few days. |

That would be really awesome! I'll post the upgrade after I complete it and test it. Also, btw, is there a mechanism to contribute to the project with a few bucks?
Thanks,

Try appending this to the NEC 4DEV Yamaha Combo entry in protocols.ini, just after the line beginning: Code.HCS08=20 17 22 47 82.... Code: | Code.MAXQ610=33 69 82 14 16 00 15 00 16 00 3F 00 05 10 56 01 AB 00 05 10 AB 00 AB 00 00 80 34 12 DF D9 06 11 DF DF 01 53 DA D0 DF 53 DB D1 DF 52 D0 D9 03 00 D3 D8 00 17 D5 D3 FF 56 08 D9 02 17 D5 D5 01 56 08 D9 04 17 D5 D5 80 55 08 D0 20 17 D2 D1 FF E2 44 24 71 72 73 75 1C 56 0C D0 10 15 95 95 01 56 14 D0 01 55 08 D0 01 15 95 95 C0 15 95 95 10 16 96 96 1F E2 55 01 81 0C 55 0C D0 10 10 95 00 D4 10 B7 00 00 | Then start RMIR and load your upgrade. |

Hi, I tested it briefly on the scene codes only and it seems to work great! I'll build the upgrade fully over the next few days. Many thanks,

Hi All,
I did some searching and I found several PDFs on AVSforum that seem like they should be a gold mine for a comprehensive upgrade for these receivers. I've uploaded one of them to this forum at:
http://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/dload.php?action=file&file_id=13126
I'd appreciate it if someone could point me in the right direction on converting these codes, which seem to be documented several different way to codes that cab be used in RMIR.
Many thanks,
Tom |

Replying to my own post, I found this excellent thread from 2011 which contains a great translation spreadsheet from Chico Woodhill. I'm back on track!
