Which JRE to install for Remote Master?

Post by sirjp1 »

On Windows 8.1 x64, which JRE to install for Remote Master? 7 or 8, 32 or 64 bit? What's known to work best with RM?
Thank you.

It shouldn't matter. Personally I have JRE 7, 64-bit, on Windows 8 but all should work fine.

Thank you. Do I also need to have IR.exe installed? I'm not sure I understand what the purpose of IR is. I understand RM is the replacement for KM, but what about IR?
It's my first JP1 remote ever so I'm still trying to digest a lot of info. My JP1 cable is not even here yet, just trying to get a head start to be ready when it arrives.

RM is essentially the replacement for both IR and KM.

Posting to save others some trouble...

Use a 32-bit JVM.

I tried JRE 1.8.0_25 64-bit and the JVM crashes when trying to talk to the remote. I use this cable, so it may have to do with the FTDI drivers, as I see ftd2xx.dll in the dump:
