Hi Everyone,
Like the title says this is a completely new thing and I'm very interested in getting into after reading a ton of threads/posts on here.
My set up, right now I am in the process of putting a HTPC system together (just got my bare bones PC kit in the mail yesterday) and will be using WMC and a few extenders (most likely Ceton Echos,I think?) throughout the house.I'll be using a cable card for TWC in my area (via PCI card or external Ceton ?? Not sure as of yet)
Anyhow, I have a Harmony ultimate I use right now for my main LR with AVR/BD/SACD in a hall closet that for now I will figure out eventually how to program with WMC codes once I have all the other stuff figured out (HTPC,WMC also all new to me)
I'm trying to figure out which universal remote and JP1 cable I should start out with for my other 3-4 TV locations in which I would also get a easy to learn starting point with JP1 without getting to advanced right now.
The remote I start with I would love to just get multiple of the same (standardize the rooms) so my wife and young son would just have to learn and get use to 1 remote no matter what room they are in, all rooms in the house will just need TV control and WMC control via an extender(no other components will be in any other room except the main LR with the Harmony) So any good starting point suggested remote with back light would be very much appreciated.
My other question, would remote locating all extenders in my media closet and using a dedicated IR eye from each room TV be possible to control separately with a separate JP1 remote for each room without IR signals getting crossed up in the closet accidentally to the wrong extender if more then 2 were in service at the same time ? The reason I ask is because I have dedicated HDMI runs to each TV location already from the closet and would rather not have to mount an extender box somehow on each of my wall mounted TV's in those locations.
Thanks in advance and I look forward to this new learning curve I'm about to start on...

I can't speak to your HTPC issues, but for simple situations the Comcast remotes ate very east to use. Lots of buttons. Controls 3 devices and a phantom device. Lots of upgrade space and rugged. Extended functionality available with jp1 tools. A little quirky but a great value.
Comcast jp1.3

Tip: When creating an upgrade, always include ALL functions from the oem remote, even if you never plan on assigning them to a button. Complete function lists makes an upgrade more helpful to others.

The wiki is a great place to read up, but I would recommend reading this PDF document. It is quite old, but it is quite comprehensive and searchable.roadking00 wrote:
