I am doing all the development work in Win 8 and have had no problem with either my Touch or my Lite with RMIR. I have made little use of EZ-RC since I got the Win 8 machine but did need to do some experimenting today with EZ-RC and the Lite. EZ-RC kept exiting to the login page part way through most actions, but with repeated attempts I did get it to create a macro, which is all I was trying to do. So use with RMIR seems more reliable than use with EZ-RC.

Test 11 now updated to RMIR v2.03 Alpha 22 Test 12.
Only the jar file has been changed, but treat this version with care. There have been some substantial changes to the code, so new bugs may have crept in. It should have dealt with all the issues reported in recent posts, but I have taken the opportunity to make some improvements that I have been meaning to do for some time.
Part of the revision has been to unify the treatment of the Lite/Plus with that of the Color/Touch as far as it is possible to do so, so much of the work should primarily affect only the Lite/Plus. The main changes concern Macros and Activity Assists. These should now be properly function-based, i.e. not only do you specify macro steps as functions rather than button presses (that has been there for quite some time), but the macro will keep the same functions even if you move those functions from one button to another, or even delete the button assignment (but not, of course, the function) altogether. If you have a learned function on a button that also has an underlying function then both the learned and the underlying functions can be used in macros, even both in the same macro. Testing showed up a number of longstanding minor bugs, most of which I have dealt with but a few still remain due to lack of time.
I have done a lot of testing during this development but would describe it as exhausting rather than exhaustive
, so do expect to find new bugs. There may even be major ones if some of the last minute changes have caused problems. I'm posting it now, not because I regard it as finished or error-free but just because I probably won't have much time this coming week to work on it further. I await your comments

Hi Graham - thanks for the hard work!
I rebuilt my living room remote from scratch with a virgin image and my old upgrades without a hitch!
This is the easier of my two setups - but this is a really good sign. MUCH better than the last time I started from scratch.
I will try to re-build my home theatre setup over tomorrow or Wednesday.

If the XSights fail with RMIR then it is not a problem with conduit, as that is not involved in RMIR's communication with the remote. 3FG has shown this explicitly as he has RMIR working with his ARRX12G without ever having conduit installed on his machine. The problem must lie with some incompatibility of the Microsoft generic HID driver and the XSight remotes, so it is unclear that Audiovox would be in a position to resolve it (other than by writing a new USB HID driver, I suppose). Incidentally I have RMIR running in a virtual XP SP3 machine within Oracle VirtualBox on my Win 8 machine. It has a similar, but possibly even stranger, problem. When I plug in either of my XSights, Device Manager says that the HID driver will not start (Code 10 error). With the Touch, if I disable the driver and then re-enable it, it starts and works fine with RMIR, and also with EZ-RC. This trick does not work with the Lite. Both XSights work fine with RMIR under the main Win 8 OS.mdavej wrote:Update on the Win 8 and 8.1 connection issue. Audiovox support here in the US has stated that it won't work and will never be fixed since the remote is discontinued here. If any fixes or updates for the conduit show up in Europe or elsewhere, please let us know. I have successfully downloaded the Euro version of the conduit, but it still doesn't work properly in 8.1 (I had it working in Win 8, in spite of what support said). Note that this affects both EZ-RC and RMIR. See the first post in the thread for more details.

Hi All,
I have a brand new remote One for All XSight Plus (URC 8620).
I've tried to use your software (RemoteMaster v2.03 Alpha 22 Test 12), I downloaded the files from the first post, but every time I try to get recognized my remote, the software says a message 'No remotes found', but
I can see it in the Windows' Device Manager as a HID. The original USB cable is used. EZ-RC finds it as well. I tried Windows XP 32 bit, Windows 7 32 bit / 64 bit, and Windows 8.1 64 bit, no luck.
Java version: 1.7.0_60 (latest).
Is my remote supported? It looks like ARRX12G XSight 12. What do I do wrong?
Sorry for my newbieness and my English.

Hi Stevest
I'm sorry you have had that trouble. It is happening because you are the first user we have with an XSight Plus, so there is no RDF for it. No RDF means that you get No Remotes Found.
You can solve this and help us at the same time. Plug in your remote and open Device Manager. In Win 8 this is under System in the control panel. In Device Manager, open the list of Human Interface Devices. Open each of these in turn and look for a line like.
You need to find the one with a VID_06E7, that identifies the device as a UEI remote. The information you need is the PID, in this case 8009.
You will find this line under the Events tab for the device in Win 8, maybe elsewhere in earlier Windows systems. When you have this number, make a copy of the RDF for the ARRX12G and change the 8011, in the USB8011 that starts the filename, to the PID that you found. It may well be 8009, but we don't know for sure. Change the name in brackets to XSight Plus, or whatever you like - that is not important. It is the number after USB that is important. All should then work.
Then, please let us know what that PID number is, so that we can add an RDF for it to our distribution. You are right, apart from the name and that PID, it is identical to the ARRX12G so the RDF you make will be correct. Good luck and let us know what happens.

Do we know that the Plus and ARRX12G have the same built in executors and setup codes? In general, that hasn't been true for UK/US sister remotes.
Once Stevest gets communication going, we may need to do a bit more work on the RDF, if it turns out that the remotes have different executors or setup data.

Thank you for the quick answer.
The PID of the device is 8009.
I tried a copy of USB8008 (URC-8610 XSight Lite).rdf, then USB8011 (ARRX12G XSight 12).rdf. The remote is recognized in a way (no 'No remotes found'), but there is a never-ending 'DOWNLOADING...' at the status bar with both file.
What's next?

Never-ending "DOWNLOADING..." usually means that the data has actually been downloaded but that something has hung up during its interpretation. You should find a file called rmaster.err in the installation folder for RMIR. That is a text file. If I am right, the last line in that should say "Ending normal download".
If it doesn't say that, please upload the rmaster.err file for me to look at. In either case, please also try the following. Open RMIR, start the download process again, and after 30 seconds or so ignore the status bar and open the "Advanced" menu. Click on the item that says "Preserve original data". The menu will then close. Now open the "File" menu and select "Save as...". In the "Files of type..." drop-down box, change the type to "IR file (*.ir)". Give whatever file name you like, but without an extension (delete the .rmir extension if it puts one by default). Press Save, and upload the file that it creates for me to look at. This should have a .ir extension.
We have had various things cause endless downloading in the past, but I thought I had dealt with them all. We'll soon sort it out.

This is the rmaster.err file with the "Ending normal download" line.
Unfortunately the 'Save' and 'Save As' menu items are greyed out, so I cannot save the ir file.
I used a copy of USB8008 (URC-8610 XSight Lite).rdf file as USB8009 (URC-8620 XSight Plus).rdf.

It worked, here it is.
Great find. I'll uninstall the conduit and see what happens. As I said, I have no issues in Win 8 either, only in 8.1. I'm just repeating what Audiovox told me. In any case, I doubt it will ever be fixed. So avoiding 8.1 or using a VM seems to be the solution. I RDP from my Win 8.1 box into my Win 7 box where my remote is connected to work around it.mathdon wrote:If the XSights fail with RMIR then it is not a problem with conduit, as that is not involved in RMIR's communication with the remote. 3FG has shown this explicitly as he has RMIR working with his ARRX12G without ever having conduit installed on his machine.
