Seems to me that the root (c:\) should be off limits for some programs on some platforms. Try creating a slingbox folder off the root and put the files in that folder.

Tip: When creating an upgrade, always include ALL functions from the oem remote, even if you never plan on assigning them to a button. Complete function lists makes an upgrade more helpful to others.

Vicky: That won't be the problem. If the system can't see the BIN file it flags an error message. In this case nothing happens. I have actually tried to do the install on one of the boxes myself and saw the same symptoms, even though the identical procedure on my box is fine. Almost certainly a hardware problem. We are awaiting (more in hope than expectation) for a comment from the engineers.

I'm hoping they will get to it faster than they are handling that learning site.
Again it might not like that root for a portion of the procedure. When I was first learning to work with vista I was running into issues with restricted folders all the time. Things wouldn't work and wouldn't kick up errors. I got burned by that enough to learn my lesson as a programer. As a software user you expect error reports but its just not working. If the software is using newer linked libraries that have security restrictions this could still be an issue. Many security updates deal with root access. So java, flash, silverligt types of applications will haveissues if they do things that are later deemed to be security risks. Bin files in rhe root just screams NO to me.

Sorry, but using Vista and WIN8.1 and the root has always been fine for me
That is also what I have recommend using for about the last 50 Custom Remotes and this is the first time this problem has arisen.
I do take your point though, when it comes to writing/updating files. Then I agree, UAC is a major limitation. But here we are simply reading them so there should be no problem.
