1. Device: Vizio E470i / Vizio E500i (aka E470i-A0 / Vizio E500i-A1 / Vizio E-Series )
2. Type of device: HDTV Television
3. Year: 2012
4. JP1/UEI Remote model: RCA RCRP05B
5. Do you have a JP1 cable? No
6. Still have original remote? Yes
7. Checked the file section? Yes
8. Checked Pronto file section (at R/C)? huh ?
9. Partially working setup code? Yes, TV/1758
10. Learning remote question? n/a
11. Have you tried the JP1 Lookup Tool? not sure

Sorry I have completely forgotten how to do extended key codes on this remote, been over a year since I fiddled with it and no cable.

The RCA code 1758 does about 80% setup on this remote.
I'd rather use real codes if possible rather than teach it from the original and waste memory.

It is missing two critical sets of buttons:
1. the forward, back pause, stop controls
2. the universal menu button

now the menu button is mentioned in the other vizio thread and linked here:
http://www.remotecentral.com/cgi-bin/forums/viewpost.cgi?1059132
EFC = 42, Function/OBC = 79
but I apologize as I have no clue how to use that info as an extended key code to program the RCRP05B

As far as the forward/back/play/stop buttons, I believe Vizio has nearly universal codes that work on all models for the past few years (as far as IR) because they sell single replacements that work on all models.

I see a couple of "generic" files for vizio on remotecentral and then there is this E500-A1 listed here but I have no idea how to extract the codes from it?

http://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/dload.php?action=file&file_id=11917

Many thanks for any assistance.

Okay after much more reading and remembering, apparently what I am asking for is the 9XX code.

But I am not sure how to use that 42 / 79 code ?

So I press TV
Press and hold SETUP until it flashes twice
Press 994
Press SETUP
(now what do I do here with 42 / 79 since it wants a 3 or 5 digit code?)
Press button to assign the menu code to

OH ! I see, I just pre-pad the EFC with zeros if it is too short for 5 digits.

So 42 becomes 00042

Now to see if 42 really is menu for this model.

IT WORKS ! Yes !

Now that I know 00042 is right for this model I guess I can search for the other key codes.

Thank you to everyone for the wealth of knowledge on this site.

I still need to figure out the play/stop/forward/reverse buttons - I see a E500 file in the files section but the codes in there don't see to correspond, ie. the menu for that one says 0D which is "15" and not 42 so those aren't 9XX codes?

What's interesting is the channel up/down button doesn't work either, though virtually every other button works like volume and input and the directional buttons. I wonder if I should try the TV/1756 code.

Aha! I figured out how to use remote-master to load the E500-A1 file and now I can see all the EFC codes which were not obvious when looking directly at the rmdu file

Successfully fixed the channel up/down buttons!

Will do the rest later. This is fantastic.

Now to try to figure out if I can code the previous/next buttons.

The original vizio remote does not have those keys but there are other keys the television supports which are not on the basic remote (like alphanumeric)

I guess I will look at other video remotes for hints, like their premium M-series.

Looks like the Vizio XRU300 has previous/next.

Looks like Vizio VCRs share the same play/pause/stop/ff/rewind codes and they have

next track 00151
prev track 00086

So will try those.

There are no discretes for the pic modes. HDMI5 is unknown, but here are some good candidate EFCs to try:

HDMI5 00192
HDMI6 00190
HDMI7 00194
HDMI8 00061

Let us know if any of those work.

This is the most complete Vizio code list we have:

http://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/dload.php?action=file&file_id=12755

EDIT: According to the post below, the above codes are correct:

That's too bad about the picture modes (will see if Vizio's CTO knows whether there are any!). Thanks for the other codes!
