I have a JVC KD-G340 car stereo with RM-RK50 remote. I'm sure it's IR since there's a big ol' LED on the front.

Oddly, my 8820 won't learn from it at all. It does nothing but time out. Searches don't reveal any previous discussion of this. Any insights?

Here's a thread that discusses similar JVC remotes.
Based on the waveforms shown, it appears that the RM-RK52 uses the JVC IR protocol, device 143, while the RM-252 uses JVC-48, which is one of the many Kaseikyo protocols, device 112.162.

Perhaps the RM-RK50 uses the same codes as the RM-RK52.
JVC IR protocol device 143
Vol+ 132
Vol- 133
Source 136
Sound 141
Mute 142
Right 146
Left 147
Up 148
Down 149.

Anyway, your 8820 should learn these codes without difficulty. Fresh batteries in the 8820? Have you tried different distances between the two remotes?

Have you tried a 981 reset before learning?

I'm having difficulty trying to figure out, how an LED on the "front" of the remote means IR. So there's a bulb on the business end of the remote, that flashes white when viewed through a digital cameras (phone will do).
