grundig, etc upgrade files

This is the JP1 beginners forum. There's no such thing as a stupid question in here, so post away, but this forum is just for JP1 users and people considering JP1, non-JP1 users please use the appropriate forum above!

grundig, etc upgrade files

Post by ivanovm »

Hello,

I got a URC-8811 during a recent trip to the US and I'm trying to set it up with my stuff here in Germany. Of course setup codes are pre-programmed, so I figured I need to either use learning or find upgrades. I got this far: made a Jp1 cable, got IR.exe to talk to my remote and found a few Setup codes from the OFA european site that might work with my equipment. Now are the two questions I have:
1. The setup codes I have are not listed in the Devices4.xls. Could you please tell me where else can I find upgrade info (EFCs, etc.) or do I have to use learning features? I already upgraded the remote with protocols needed and some of the buttons through the learning feature, but not all. I have the following devices (most are several years old):

- Grundig TV M70 690/9 - this is the main problem, I have no original remote, and the replacement is missing some functions, like button to select NTCS/PAL, etc.
- LG DVD4730
- Satellite Technisat ST3000S
Has anyone out there have the upgrade files? I'd really appreciate it.

2. I just finished putting together an HTPC with IRman and Showshifter. Plan also to play with Linux and MythTV. Could you suggest a good setup code for the OFA remote to control a PC? Of course both IRman and the remote can be programmed, but what starting point do I use?

Thanks,
Misha

Misha,

Start by learning a few commands for each piece of gear. IR should be able to decode the protocol, device, and OBC/EFC. If the replacement remote works for some of the functions on your TV, that will confrim what IR protocol and device it uses. We can then cross reference that to a device upgrade OR you can go find a similar model at Remote Central and decode that file with some of the tools and know that those commands will probably work.

Once you have learned several commands, post the file that you learned by IR|File|Save As and upload to the diagnosis area and tell us that you did so in this thread.

One of us will then take a look.

As far as a setup code for your IRMan ,TV_0154 is a protocol that it understands very well, but that is also the main TV code for Toshiba, in case that would be a conflict.

Jon,

Thanks for the answer. I uploaded a file called Misha_remote_040219.txt
to the Yahoo diagnosis area. There're only learned three buttons for the TV "power", "1" and "AV". Please note, this is a european TV and turns on only when a channel number or "AV" is pressed. The "Power" button only turns the TVset off.

I already created an upgrade for the Sat box and most of the DVD functions and the seem to work OK. However, I'm still having trouble with the Grundig TV, even though I did a protoccol upgrade to Blaupunkt. Appreciate your help.

Misha,

I just uploaded Misha.zip to the diagnosis area. There are four files:

Misha_remote_040219-1.txt an 8811 EEOPROM image with all the device/protocol upgrades installed your commands deleted. You can just load and test this.

There are also three KM Master text files for the three device upgrades. TV_1195.txt also has a Protocol upgrade. TV_1195-KM.txt that should be close to what you need for the Grundig TV. SAT_1262-KM.txt that should have more than the commands that you had learned, and LG-DVD-KM.txt

You can open up any of the KM files and reaarange the keys, since in some cases I was guessing at the functions. Once you get it working would you please post the device upgrades in the appropriate sub-folders at the JP1 Yahoo group|files|devices.

John Fine, the last time I saw a definition of $00A5 Blaupunkt it was:

Blaupunkt{prefix}:{500}<-1,1|1,-1>(1,-5,1023:10,-27)
Blaupunkt{body}: {500}<-1,1|1,-1>((1,-5,1023:10,-27)(1,-5,1:1,F:9,-27)+)

I know you changed it to MSB, one command that I decoded from three ccf files at RC was device=1 and the rest were device=0.

Interestingly, there was a statellite receiver that was device=0 but all commands were >OBC=63

Where is the device/function barrier out the the 9 variable bits?

I don't know if you have seen this, but I couldn't get any of the binary in the spec sheet to agree with the ccf's or your decoding and I'm sure your decoding is correct:

That PDF clearly states that there are 6 function bits FOLLOWED by 3 device bits.

I don't remember it that way for Grundig.

I won't have time anytime soon to do the comparison (Grundig doc which I have somewhere vs. that doc, vs. Grundig decodes, vs. these decodes).

I had some time on my hands so I did a device upgrade and substituted FF for the fixed data and decoded that plus the original power command (fixed data 00) manually. Bits in order of transmission and on the right what IR/DecodeIR.dll decoded:

1 010000 000 Fixed Data $00 Blaupunkt:0:2
1 010000 111 Fixed Data $FF Blaupunkt:3:66

The first bit is the start bit always One. That leads me to believe that the decoder thinks it's F:7,D:2. Since I saw the Grundig Satellite Receiver with all commands >63, I think UEIC is correct and it agrees with the pdf link that I posted that it is F:6,D:3. It is also LSB first.

Further, I went back and looked at the timing in the ccf files. I looked at the Pronto hex and in one file out of 40 learned commands, there are only values of 0010, 0020, 0050, 0270, and 0E61 (and a very few 0E71). The wavelength of the carrier is 32 uS and that represents 512, 1024, 2560, 19,968, and 117,792 uS respectively.

Those are just about the exact timings in the pdf file for the half bit, two half-bits, off time in the "pre-bit", gap between the ten-bit "start command" (decimal 1023) and the 10-bit "command" and finally the gap between repeated "commands". In several cases the hex ended in a "start command".

The reason I mention this is I think the pdf file is correct about everything except for the encoding of the data bits.

Thanks a lot, Jon. I'm out of town until Sunday, but I will try it ASAP.

Best,
Misha
