Just to clarify, Delcom chips are used in JP1 (EEPROM) cables and FTDI chips are used in JP1 (Flash) cables.

Is there a build PDF that utilizes the FTDI chip that can be downloaded?
NM I answered my own question. "At the present time there is one vendor (Tommy Tyler) selling a JP1.2/3 (flash) interface that plugs directly into a USB port. There are no published DIY instructions or schematics for this type of interface."

If you want to build an interface yourself and have a serial port on your computer, it isn't necessary to use a USB-based system.
Serial interface
Serial interface
I did DL that plus the Parallel interface, but unfortunately I have neither on my computer. I will just order a cable from Tommy after his store reopens.3FG wrote:If you want to build an interface yourself and have a serial port on your computer, it isn't necessary to use a USB-based system.

I really want to give the whole JP1 thing a try. The obvious first step is getting a cable.
Although I found the thread about Tommy Tyler's store a little confusing, I am going to presume that the store is closed and Tommy is no longer selling cables.
I have found listings for required parts (FTDI cables and 2x3 housings) on eBay (cannot find any of the parts in any brick and mortar stores), but I have also found a couple of ready-made cables on eBay that are only a few dollars more expensive, and are sold closer to home so it will not take anywhere near as long to get them.
Is there anything that I should be asking the sellers of the ready-made cables on eBay for I purchase?
I was thinking that I should ask the following:
Will the cable work on my Atlas 1056B03 (I believe it's a JP2) and my other Atlas (the exact model is not on the remote, but it's silk-screened with JP1.2 on it)?
Are there any drivers required for the cable to work, and where will I find these drivers, if required?
Anything else I should ask or look out for?
People on this site have been very patient with my questions, and I really appreciate it and look forward to any help with this.

I already posted about the concern if cables based on the Prolific chip set will work with JP2 remotes. Also, it's not clear why, but drivers for the Prolific chip set are more finicky than the FTDI drivers, especially with Win7 and presumably Win8.
