General questions for creating 1st custom remote bin, help

Post by joseasd »

I own a slingbox 350 bought a month ago at amazon, and an az america s922 satellite receiver.

I decided to create my own custom bin so i've got some questions to do so:

- Is my slingbox JU, PL, PK, RV or JB?
- My plan is go with a Learning Remote and a JP Cable (usb preferable)

Which one should i buy?

JP Cable:

http://www.diygadget.com/jp1-1-1-1-2-1- ... motes.html

or you might recommend other?

Learning remote options:

http://www.radioshack.com/product/index ... d=11343869

http://www.radioshack.com/product/index ... d=11305272

or any other ?

Thanks a lot. Any recommendation is much appreciated

It uses a JB chip but this is compatible with PL files so I would use those.

Can't help on the learning remote as I use an IR Widget and IRScope, but will be interested in any feedback in case I decide to go that route.

¿Is there any place to buy an IR widget?

I emailed him, and got a response saying that he's not in the business. Too bad, looks like my only chance is the JP cable and learning remote method.

So, the questions in the 1st post of this thread remains the same.

None of the remotes you listed are JP1-- they don't have a 6 pin connector. The usual remote we suggest for learning is the RCA RCRP05B.

The DIYGadget USB flash cable will work with JP1.2/1.3/1.4 remotes (the RCRP05B is a 1.3 remote), but we haven't had success reading the newer JP2 or JP3 remotes with these cables. You may to consider buying a FTDI cable, following these instructions by Tommy. These do work with any flash remote, so you would be more future proof..

Are you sure those Remotes are JP1-compatible ? I couldn't see anything in the technical specifications about it.

While you are waiting do you want me to try and build a Custom Remote for you ?

it didn't work.
1. Was there any error message after you typed in the Code and tapped the Power button ? No

2. Did you give the Power command plenty of time to react ? (I have a DVR that takes about 6-8 seconds to power up/down) Yes.

3. After completing the setup (regardless of whether the Power button worked) do any of the other buttons work ? None.

4. Have you used a Digital Camera to confirm the IR Blaster is actually firing when you tap the Power button ? (Watch the tip of the IR Blaster thorugh the viewfinder while you tap a button. You should see a white (not red) flash) I tried another custom bin (azbox bravoo+) and IR Blaster is ok

5. Have you experimented with the placement of the IR Blaster ? On some devices this is critical so don't give up too quickly. Yes, thats not the problem

6. Are you sure the device is working correctly using the real remote ?
Yes, i use it very often.

Minutes ago i found that azbox bravoo+ custom bin remote make a few button works with my az america s922, but the buttons don't match. for example green button on the azbox bravoo+ custom bin press "005" on my az america s922.
yellow button is "info" in my az america through slingbox.

i don't know if that could be of any help.

thanks for your efforts.

It will, but at the moment I am sitting at Dulles Airport in Washington DC waiting to catch a flight to London 😀 I'll get back to you as soon as I am settled in the UK.

OK, that box uses NEC1 0, whereas the s922 decoded as NEC1 1:127. No idea why. So I have updated the remote at https://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/dload ... e_id=11725 just changing the device number. Does it work and do the buttons match up ?

Not a single button work with that update.

After i tried twice with that new upload, i tried with azbox bravoo +, and again buttons don't match but at least i get some reactions.

channel - is the only button correctly interpreted in the azbox bin through slingbox.

I'm more confused now.

Thanks for the efforts.

Are you using the Custom Remote for the bravoo+ or a built-in version ?
