I have built the EEPROM JP1 Serial Interface. I am trying to use it with the RMIR 2.02a software. However, inside the software there is no selection for JP1 Serial interface, only JP1.x Serial or JP1 Parallel. both of which I assume are different (they also didn't work when tried out).
I realize that the design said "obsolete". So my question is, does "obsolete" mean "no longer supported by current software"?
I was hoping that obsolete meant something like "not a great design, there are better ones out there but it will still work for some people".
If it just won't work with current software, is there older software still available in an archive somewhere?
Thanks.

IR.exe has an option for JP1 Serial, so give that a try.

I built a transistorized version of this cable:

My EEPROM JP1 remotes are:
urc-7800 (Cinema 7+)
urc-6012B00 One for All
I'm reading up on IR.exe right now and will be giving that a try once I understand it.
I'm new to JP1 so I'm still trying to figure out when to use RM vs. RMIR and now IR.exe!
Thanks for the pointers.

IR.exe does recognize my serial EEPROM JP1 remote. Thanks!
Still just learning and haven't done anything more that read remotes at this point. I also have some FLASH JP1.2/3 remotes (RCA RCRP05B) Which I can also read with a homebrew serial JP1.2/3 cable.
I can read the FLASH remotes with IR.exe or RMIR (2.02).
So my question is: What does the roadmap look like?
Is RMIR going to be the successor to IR?
Will IR be abandoned at some point?
Are they both being developed independently?
Do they each have some specialized abilities that don't overlap?
I'm just curious if I should devote my time to learning both or is one sufficient?
Thanks again!
