Holmes HCH8305 Heater

Post by ronmon »

1. Device: Holmes Portable Heater HCH8305
2. Type of device: Portable Heater
3. Year: 2012
4. JP1/UEI Remote model: 15-2104 (But I will be using it on others)
5. Do you have a JP1 cable? Yes
6. Still have original remote? Yes
7. Checked the file section? Yes
8. Checked Pronto file section (at R/C)? No
9. Partially working setup code? No
10. Learning remote question? n/a
11. Have you tried the JP1 Lookup Tool? Yes

I have recently purchased this portable heater, which comes with a 5 button remote. I am able to "Learn" the buttons, but I get a Signal Description (list of numbers), rather than a protocol. So ... I assume I need a Protocol (which has always been magic to me). I did a search for a KM definition, but I did not find any (there was a Holmes fan, but that did not work).

Since I use the extender, I believe I can't use the learned signals directly. What can I do to generate the code for these 5 buttons in KM? ... Thanks.

In order to create an upgrade for an unrecognized signal we need to see those numbers. Please post your ir file with the learns in the dignosis area and post a link to that file in this thread. I can't help with this decode as i'm rolling down I75 today and there is a limit to what i can do on an iphone.

The Holmes fan signals used a custom protocol that looked like this

Custom Protocol
{38K,634}<1,-3|3-1>(D:8,F:8,F:8,-21m)+

Tip: When creating an upgrade, always include ALL functions from the oem remote, even if you never plan on assigning them to a button. Complete function lists makes an upgrade more helpful to others.

I have added the IR file to the Diagnosis area. Note, the remote this is intended for is the 15-2104, but the IR file is from 15-2117. Thanks, and when you have a chance to reply please remember I know nothing about protocols (I will need help on what to do next).

Vicky,
Here are the burst pairs:
1 = +1275 -425
0 = +425 -1275

and here's the binary:
11011 0000001 -6800 = button 3
11011 0000010 -6800 = button 4
11011 0000100 -6800 = button 1
11011 0001000 -6800 = button 2
11011 0010000 -6800 = button 5

If this helps, the button definitions are:
1 - Power
2 - Mode
3 - Oscillation
4 - Up
5 - Down
Thanks for helping!

This upgrade is formatted for the Comcast 1067B remote.
Open this upgrade and change it to the 15-2117 remote.
Then make sure the buttons are assigned the way you want them.
If you are using IR, copy the device upgrade to the device tab, and the protocol upgrade to the protocol tab.

This may be a stupid question, but I have now converted over to using RMIR, can this KM protocol be used directly? Can it be converted? Or what?

Thanks.

Yup, you can open your old IR file using RMIR, and you can open your KM files using RM.
