You generally need to have the Replay unit "call home" once to set the clock and other things, but then you can record everything VCR style, though if you do that you're only using about 10% of its capabilities.

But, assuming you get the IR blaster set up correctly, it will change channels for you, so you don't need to babysit it like you do now.

If you ever become a fully fledged PVR user, the question of how to save live tv will never be an issue because you'll never watch live tv. I haven't watched live tv in I don't know how many years. And as for needing commercial breaks to go get the laundry, etc, if you're a PVR user you can pause the tv anytime you like, you don't need a commercial break as an excuse. The fact that you still think that way shows that you haven't mentally made the leap to the PVR way of thinking.

Take yesterday evening for example, we were ready to watch TV at about 7:15pm, but the debate didn't start until 8pm, so we watched a recorded show first and then we started watching the debate at about 8:20pm, so we were about 20 minutes behind live. Obviously there were no commercials during the debate itself, but (unless you were watching C-SPAN) there would be commercials during the post-debate commentary, so we were able to skip through them as we had enough buffer. While we were watching the debate, we had to pause it several times, either so we could go get some coffee or because one of the kids wanted to ask a question.

The commercial break isn't an excuse, its a prod. Otherwise nothing would get done.

Hmm, maybe its time to break out that producer remote, and set it up as a timer. I don't know.

Its just that I like the shows that come on after my bedtime, and in the morning when I get up at 5:am, its all paid programming. So time shifting is important, but its not worth another $25 a month to rent a cable PVRF.

I'd really like to get internet and a slingbox though. That would be worth it for the sports! We could get all the local game here, and the out of market games there. DH might go for that, although I don't know how he could fit any more sports in. He was pretty angry when we couldn't watch the Tigers in the playoff games! Maybe he'd spring. Of course then something would happen, and a reset would be needed, and there would be nobody to handle it, and I'd be in the doghouse. But it would be cool to be able to sling our local games, and then Alan wouldn't be frustrated trying to explain what a slingbox is.

I'd like to, but i'm not incharge.

I do wonder what i can do with my iPhone as a hotspot. . I know i could contact at&t and get extra service for a hotspot, but since i only use a little bit of my current limit I think there is an app that would allow me to do a minor hotspot I wonder what kind of gizmo i'd need to turn my wifi hotspot into an ethernet connection for something like this.
