CanalsatSD vs Zaptor

Post by alanrichey »

OK, here's a bit of a doozy :) Over at the Sling support forum I have a user with a Motorola 1653. He tells me that the Custom Remote I recently built for the Motorola 1910 (Zaptor, Device 16.0, RM file at https://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/dload ... e_id=11241) works very well except for the Channel Up/Down buttons. Fair enough.

However, he also tells me that the Custom Remote we recently built together for the Motorola 1853 (the new CanalSatLD protocol, Device 37.0, RM file at https://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/dload ... e_id=11209) also works and the Channel Up/Down buttons work.

So, is this logical ? I seem to remember someone saying that the CanalSatLD protocol was similar to the Zaptor ? Are they brothers ? :)

If so, is it possible to work out from the code for the CanalSatLD, Device 37.0 Channel Up/Down (OBCs 25 & 29), what the equivalent OBC codes are for the Zaptor Device 16.0 ?

It's certainly way beyond my understanding

Cheers

There's not too much similarity between Zaptor and CanalSat(LD). They are both bi-phase (Manchester encoded) signals with the same on/off times. But Zaptor has a lead in, and is 32 bits. CanalSat has no lead in (just a start bit) and is 23 bits in length. These really aren't related signals.

So I don't see any way to correlate the OBCs.

Pity. Have to use the tried and trusted method of trial and error :D

Any logic as to why the 2 different protocols appear to trigger this device ?

Some devices respond to more than one codeset, for example, ReplayTV units respond to the tradition Replay (RC6 style) signal and the Panasonic signal, so it looks like this is the case here too.

Like Rob said, its really not unusual for equipment to respond to different types of signal. I have several pieces of equipment that respond to very, very different signals. Thats why when you are working with a regular remote, trying the code search is so important. Too bad there isn't a similar feature in a sling.

However, with in this case with the similar timings and such, we could have very well made a mistake. So I went back to see if we miss interpreted the signals, but the original learns were gone. ahem.
