I don't have a JP1 remote, but I am using a custom automation system with a Global Cache WIFI2IR controller. My HA software is Motorola Premise and it uses Pronto CCF codes.
I've been looking for discrete screen format codes for my TV for a few hours now, so I thought I'd post a $10 reward if someone can help me!
Need discrete codes for the following 2D aspect ratios: Full, HFill, Just, 4:3, Zoom. This works out to a $2 per working code verified by me via a Global Cache WIFI2IR prior to paypal payment

I don't know if there are any discrete codes for this. You might be stuck using the old fashioned Aspect Toggle.

Panasonic has previously pulblished a list of Discrete Pronto Hex for there TVs prior to 2007, and there were not discretes for the individual aspect levels at that time. Panasonic is an enlightened company. Contact them and they might just give you the pronto hex that you are looking for.

You can use IrMaster (windows setup here) to do some testing yourself (sorry, I do not have said Panasonic equipment). IrMaster supports the GlobalCache directly, and it can also send your already known commands through DecodeIr (past into the analyze window, and press Decode).. It looks like most of your commands are Panasonic protocol, device 128, subdevice 0 (at least one case subdevice 9) with various obcs. So, using the "war dialer" in IrMaster you can easily try all commands with e.g. device 128 and subdevice 0.
Note that there is at least theoretically a danger of damaging or destroying (at at least triggering a factory reset) when you send undocumented commands to your equipment.
If you try, please report your findings, even if it is negative.
IrMaster is a much more modern, capable, and user friendly program, compatible with the current IrpNotation. |

Thanks, I was wondering how you send all codes automatically. The program sounds very useful.
I'm kind of scared to do this since it seems risky. If you end up sending some special factory service code, who knows what might happen?!?
For example, I already cleared my TV's settings by accident when I ran the factory test code from my previous post. |

If there are really no discrete screen formatting codes, this will be the last Panasonic device I buy!

| I hear that! I now buy my equipment specifically for its automation. You'lI absolutely hate equipment with RC5 or RC6 protocols. It was impossible for me to automate. So you don't what Philips/Magnavox either.
At least the Panasonic has discrete inputs. That's a mark in its favor. And who knows, it MIGHT have discretes that we don't know about. Contact the manufacturer to see if they do.
Oh one more thing. I had a piece of equipment that I didn't think some discretes worked, and for 7 years I went through a complicated macro only to find that there were discretes but I had to be in a certain menu selection before I pushed the buttons. Did you try the Zoom discretes from within areas of the menu/aspect range where they might work? |

Does Panasonic have a technician support number I can call that automatically directs to higher support levels?
I've called their normal support number before and it's completely useless. If anyone knows an engineer there or something, please ask them about the possibility of other discrete codes outside of:

The only Panasonic discrete aspect codes I found anywhere agreed with your Just, Zoom, 4:3, Full that you stated did not work.
As I stated above, I missed some discretes inputs for my own equipment, because I didn't realize that I had to get into a specific menu to use them. Those discretes just didn't work when the TV was in normal mode. I had to navigate to the menu and then the discrete worked.
I am unfamiliar with the Panasonic so I am guessing blindly here.
When you press aspect does it immediately toggle to the next, or does it first display its current status? If so, do the discretes work like Full, Zoom work at that point?
If not is there another place inside the menu system where the aspect ratio can be adjusted? Do the discretes work there?
In other forums, people talk about a "hack" where they just navigate between to known states via a macro. Do you need more than two states?
And finally does the Panasonic save aspect ratios by inputs? I know my Sony is really nice in that it remembers the Aspect ratio for each input. So this gives me lots of options.

Sorry I didn't mention it earlier...
I tried your idea of going into the menu when you posted it. It was a great idea, but the older panasonic codes still did not work (or you would have been the lucky winner ).
The TV does remember the last screen format selected for each source. This kind of makes having discrete commands less important, and I'm sure that's what the engineer's thinking was. I just get overly picky when it comes to making drivers for my home automation system.
I'm hoping that one of the folks on here has contacts at Panasonic and can nudge them to include discrete commands in the next firmware release, or at the very least provide me with contact info for Panasonic that would help. |

Ok, I feel like I'm not getting something here... Please elaborate on the quoted portion below.
In my home automation (HA) system, I want my PC to know the exact picture state. With IR there are typically two ways to do this: discrete commands or some macro that exploits a combination of commands to end at some known equipment state. Once the IR command is sent to guarantee a state, the state is assumed to be known by the PC due to the IR transmission method being very very reliable.
The reason one of these methods are required is to prevent a home automation command from not doing what it's supposed to. Imagine that someone uses the TV's controls directly or picks up a factory remote and uses it, any previously "known" state by my PC is nolonger known. Any macro that relied on the PC knowing the exact equipment state may not work now.... uh oh!
If I can't bullet proof an HA command, I typically make it a toggle control so it is clear programmatically that the HA system does not know the exact state of equipment. When required and possible, I use other methods such as sensing power state with a current transformer etc...
I'm stumped how this bulletproofing is possible with the method you describe, but if it is, I'm interested in knowing more.

We have a couple of other members in this forum that take home automation up to the level that you are looking for. I am drawing a blank on their names, or I'd PM them to stop by and add their comments. Hopefully they'll stop to read this topic and comment anyway.
If you add someone adjusting equipment outside of your control, then yes, state keeping by the PC or remote gets out of whack without discretes. So macros that keep track of the state are going to misfire.
Its funny how each TV is going to give you its own set of automation challenges.

Sometimes you can force things to a known state and then do x clicks to get where you want it to be. As an example, I have an ancient TV that has 2 classes of inputs with no discretes. These 2 classes are divided into "analog" and "digital" and there is a button for each. Pressing the "analog" button immediately switches to the analog selection list if it was on the "digital" selection list previously. If it was already on the analog list, it advances to the next selection amongst the analog inputs. Vice versa for the digital selection list. So, the two list are like this:
Analog:
TV (old NTSC)
Component 1
Component 2
S-Video
Composite
Digital:
DTV (ATSC/QAM)
HDMI
HDCP (don't ask)
DVI
VGA1 (yes, I know it's not digital)
VGA2
So, the issue was; without knowing to what input the TV was currently set, how can you guarantee to go to a specific input?
The answer took some thinking, but here it is. Since we know that pressing the digital or analog button always guarantees that you will be on that selection list if you weren't already, we can use that. Let's say that the TV is set to TV (NTSC) on the analog circle and the user wants to switch to Component 2. So, "press" the digital button and the TV will switch to DTV (the top of the selections) on the digital selection list. Next press analog, now the input switches to the TV (NTSC) (top of the selections) on the analog selection list. Now, we know where we are. Simply press analog twice more and bingo, we're on component 2. If we had started with the TV on the digital selection circle, pressing digital for the first button would simply advance to the next digital selection, but we don't care, since we're going to immediately press analog and guarantee that we're at the top of the analog selection list.
So, taking advantage of the fact that switching between analog and digital selection lists always guarantees that you end up at the top of the selections, means that there is a deterministic way of getting anywhere we want amongst the various inputs. No state tracking and no sensing required, though I would've actually preferred to do state sensing if it was possible. I never came up with a way to do state sensing in this case. All of this is handled by an ADI Ocelot Home Automation controller. I do state sensing for power where I can in order to get around the lack of a power on and off discretes.
I realize that all this does not bear directly on the problem at hand with the lack of discrete aspect ratio selection for your TV, but I thought that I would show an example of how to solve a similar thorny problem in the hope that it might give you some ideas with your aspect ratio problem.

For many TVs, pressing CH+ or CH- will bring you back to ANTENNA mode if you are using one of the aux inputs, and then pressing TV/VCR will take you to the first aux input. Pressing it again will take you to the 2nd, etc.
You have 5 2D aspect ratios: Full, HFill, Just, 4:3, Zoom

I have implemented an "assure_on" function by pinging an ethernet connected device, thus finding out whether the device is on or not. However, not all devices respond to ping (Microsoft appears to consider it a security risk ), and some also answer to ping in standby. Others let the user configure.
As opposed to the original poster, I have had very good experiences of RC5 and Philips. My 37PFL9603 has discrete commands for everything like the aspect ratios, ambilight on/off, inputs, and of course power, although I had to use my previously mentioned software (or a predecessor to be exact) to find them. |
