Which remote to control Motorola MOXI BMC9012

Post by fourkyu »

Hi All,

I just got a new DVR from my cable provider, a Motorola MOXI BMC9012. I tried to use it to program my MX-500, but some of the learned codes wouldn't work. I was wondering if there is JP1 remote that will work with this box so I can get back to just one remote for my HT setup.

Any JP1 S3C80 remote should work and that is most of the current ones.

There is now an upgrade in the files for it here

I believe this will work for either the Motorola or Panasonic STB's.

I didn't assign all commands or test it, but the comands have been tested on a Pronto.

The commands would be hard learn for many remotes. You might try learning them with a sharp tap on the OEM remote rather than hold it down. Make sure the MX500 is in the learning mode first, waiting for the IR signal, then a hard tap on the OEM remote. There are two different commands. One that is sent only one time, and the second that repeats as long as you hold the button.

Thanks for the information. I went down to radio shack and picked up a 15-2116 and started the process of teaching it the keys. The good news is that the keys that wouldn't work on the MX-500 do work on the 15-2116, but unfortunatly, it ran out of memory after programming about 10 keys. I can't seem to find my JP1 cable right now, so I can't give you a lot more information, but is there another remote that would work better? Maybe I should have submitted this in the beginners forum. :)

The 15-2116 is as good as any other JP1 remote, so keep looking for that cable! :)

To amplify Rob's statement a bit, the JP1 cable will allow you to upload the device/protocol upgrade that I posted. You won't need to rely on the learned commands. The 2116 will do just fine, and it willl probably impress you with what it can do.

OK, I finally found my JP1 cable, and I have things almost all set up. Thanks for all the help. I do have some more questions. I have the RS2116 remote, and most of the devices don't allow me to assign anything to the SCAN/FAV button. I downloaded the SONY-XBR450 upgrade, and it has the SCAN/FAV button available. How can I us that in the MOXI upgrade, as well as my other devices? Also, it appears that a couple of the buttons on the MOXI don't have the normal EFC/OBC values. The learned values look like:

12 AUX 9 Gap-210-2217-8? 8 8
Gap-210-10790-17? 0 1 0 0.1.0
Gap-210-1028-4? 11 B
Gap-210-1460-8? 34 22
Gap-210-2217-8? 8 8
Gap-210-10790-17? 0 1 0 0.1.0
Gap-210-1028-4? 11 B

Do I have to use learned keys for these, or can I add them to the MOXI upgrade?

I think the scan favorite button can usually not be assigned without the extender. Try shift-scan until you get to using an extender. It will take a key move.

As far as additional commands, post the file saved in IR with the learned commands in the diagnosis area in the JP1 Yahoo files. Read the sticky post on how to paste a link to the Yahoo files, and paste a link. The decoder won't decode those commands but I will do it manually, but it may not be until after the first :-)

To program the fav/scan button without an extender, you can use the fav/scan special protocol, which IIRC is part of the special protocols spreadsheet. If it's not, you will be able to find it in the special protocols folder.
