thanks got it working. the gateway monitor that it came with is in the garbage so i now have a new toy to play with probally going to build a serial cable adapter (have lots of that type of stuff arround "the sat geek i am").i will be back to ask more dumb questions.

ok so i found this old gateway remote and i saw a jp1 pin header in the batt compartment (this is good if i had a cable) i learned 18 codes into it now its full. now i need to start over but i can't figure out how to default it (remove learned codes) its a gateway ofr102.03 and it learns by pressing ...
