Victory! I am stronger than the computer!
So I backed up my files, got out my Win2k CD and... reinstalled the OS on my laptop. Amazingly... it now works! My primary computer is still having issues, but I don't really care as long as I have 1 computer that is mine , that works. Thanks very much for your help. I appreciate your time ...

Could the StartService call somehow supply credentials? I am running Windows 2k, SP 4 - While I have looked at Longhorn etc, I don't mess with that stuff at home (I like my Win2k :D ). The Admin account has been renamed - but I can install any drivers I want. Truly, I am an admin on this box. This ...

Questions about Keymap Master and the 15-2117
I have the 15-2117, and on the Keymap master file it lists buttons like this:
@ phantom1
@ phantom2
@ phantom3
@ phantom4
@ phantom5
@ DiscreteON
@ DiscreteOFF
@ setup
@ light
@ my system
Some of these buttons I can actually see on the remote (Light and My System) but none of the other buttons ...

Ok, well Porttalk/ AllowIO did not work - gives me an unkown error, or again the access denied error. So - I guess the issue is not with IR.EXE - somehow, some way it is an issue with permissions. Very very strange. I just wish there was actually something different from one machine to the other ...

Mark,
Thanks for the response. I guess this calls for a little background here. My girlfriend's computer sits next to my home PC, and both are a member of the same domain (in which I am the domain admin). As soon as any computer is joined to my domain, I am automatically an admin (I run an e-mail ...

Ok, so I looked at my girlfriends computer - and I set up my computer to be exactly the same. Both computers are joined to a domain - so I use the same credentials from both of them (again, I don't think this is an admin issue). They are both set as ECP printers - and Win2k recognizes the drivers as ...

Error using the IR.EXE application
This is strange, I get the following error on 2 computers (but it works fine on 2 others).
Here is the error:
Unable to initialize drivers for any JP1 interface. Drivers for at least one interface must be able to load in order for IR to communicate with your remote.
Parallel/Serial Error:
