Are there any JP1 remotes that I can just walk into a store and buy these days? Best Buy used to carry several of them, but they don't seem to carry them any more (at least according to their website). Circuit City and Walmart don't seem to have them either. Any thoughts?

Re: did you ever finish this?

did you ever finish this?
No, I haven't. I haven't done anything more than what was stated above. I really meant to get back to it sooner, but the real world has a way of intervening sometimes. Once I was sure that the remote worked correctly, I stopped worrying about it. I do expect to get back ...

When you say that you've got the remote working, do you mean that you've learned the signals from the DVD remote?
No, I haven't gotten that far yet. I've learned just the one key so far, just enough to show that it works. Unfortunately, I have to head out of town on business for the next few days ...

Don't take my remarks quite so seriously. <g> It's true that I wouldn't call the process as described "easy", but it's certainly doable. I probably won't get around to it for a few days, but at some point I'll follow the instructions and get the codes set up correctly. BTW, your words "easier than ...

I'm glad that you found that at least one of the solutions works for you, but that doesn't mean that the other solutions are not also valid.
Yes, I can imagine that there are times when swapping a battery could still result in a usable voltage, though it's pretty clear that it will be severely ...

I hope this document has helped show you how easy using JP1 can really be.
<VBG> I would tend not to use the word "easy" in this description! Very little of what is in that page is in any way "easy", especially the section on creating an upgrade from scratch.

Frankly, I'm amazed that the ...

ANother option that you could have tried, and I'm sure you would have ben VERY sceptical about this, is you could have reversed one of the batteries (just for when the remote is hooked up to the JP1 cable) and this would probably have also fixed it. Give it a try.
I did try that. I was skeptical ...

I'm surprised that an RCA player uses something other than the standard RCA DVD code, but that does appear to be the case. Unfortunately, the "NEC1 device code 0" combo is very common so there's no chance of us spotting a match based on just one code, so I think you're just going to have to set ...

OK, so I'm skeptical about the battery idea, but I figured I'd try it. My batteries are clearly VERY strong. Brand new, and they really hit the meter hard on my battery tester.

So I swapped for a set of AAAs from a flashlight. These batteries also test very strong - I can't really tell any ...

If you're getting the MEM FAULT message, it probably means that the EEPROM memory is corrupted. Therefore, I would recommend that you do a full MFR RESET (not an OPS RESET).

Instructions here...

Is my 8910 defective?

I've had an 8910 for several years now, but after a bit too much abuse from my teenagers, it finally gave up the ghost. So today I went out and bought a new one.

The new one, however, does not work at all with JP1. If I hook up my cable and start ir.exe, it tends to lock up the remote. Sometimes ...

OK, I'll order one. But I'm going to be away for a bit, so I won't be able to do much with this until mid-January. In the meantime, I may try to call OFA to see if they have an update for the 420.

BTW, I did try the satbox codes, but they didn't work.

Code for Zenith HDTV set top box?

I bought a One For All 8910 today and I've been able to set it up for all of my devices except one. I can't figure out what code to use for my Zenith 420 HDTV receiver. I'm not even sure what device type it should fall under.

It's not a cable box, not a satellite box, not a TV, not an audio ...
