With the JP1.x serial cable plugged in, the remote was detected by RMIR and I could upload a valid configuration.

Thanks Rob for the answer !

I grabbed the oldest PC I found in the basement that still had a serial port, and spent a few hours  installing Windows 7 on it (the most difficult part was getting Java 8 to run on it).

Then my old JP1.x serial cable worked like a charm with the latest version of ...

URC-7780 reseting

Hello all,
Got my old 7780 out of its drawer to teach my Harmony extended codes for my new Yamaha RX-V685 amp.

Things went well for several learning sessions. Unfortunately at some time while downloading an upgrade via the WAV interface, the remote kept indicating "Downloading Now" even when the ...

I confirm that earbuds (not just ipod ones) work well for modem uploads.
They also have the advantage of not having your whole house asking why you are doing those funny noises :)

As it is today, IRToWAV is a relatively stupid program. It takes a chunk of upgrade memory and converts it to the wav protocol. It has no knowledge whether the chunk is from the upgrade, the settings, the key move/macro areas or for an entire image. All this knowledge is in IR.

The wav file itself ...

Graham, I have opened your wav file in IR 8 Beta 5 and reexported it as wav (File/Export to wav/Upgrades). The only difference between your posted file and the IR exported one are in the first two bytes.

Your file :

F000: 9D 62 F0 44 F0 4A FF 00 11 3A C5 66 99 0A F5 4A
....

The IR exported one ...

I have tried the posted file on my 7780 and also got a "download failed".
Here is another version that works on my 7780. You need to unzip the wav file first.

You can read the corresponding patent.
The transceiver has a detector for detecting a radio frequency pulse accompanying a first infrared signal generated from the infrared remote controller and a transmitter for generating a radio frequency signal in response to the radio frequency pulse.

This thread describes the modem upgrade procedure for several remotes. The 15-2138 is not listed, but you might want to try.

Graham,

I have tested extender A2 with IR 8.00 Beta 5, and so far it works as advertised.
:!: It is really convenient not to have to set the language/time after each upload. :!:
The installation of the upgrade is not what I would call trivial, but provided your extensive and precise ...

Graham,

of course you are right on both counts.
Defining the Shift-Vol+/- macros as indicated correctly handles the case (I didn't RTFM  ).
The V_DEVx in the device selection macros also are not necessary when VTP is off.

BTW, I have been using IR 8 beta since you made it public and it ...

Thanks Graham, solution 3 (partially) works.

I have disabled VTP in IR.

My AMP being on DEV4, so I created the 3 macros :

Vol+ = X_DEV4, XShift-Vol+
Vol- = X_DEV4, XShift-Vol-
Mute = X_DEV4, XShift-Mute

that replace VPT.

For each other device, I have defined a selection macro :

Dev1 = V ...

Thanks for you answers Graham.

For my needs, solution 1 is not appropriate, because I would like to have the same behaviour for all devices that have their own volume settings (SAT, TV, MediaCenter). That is mute -> AMP mute, shift-mute -> current device mute. With solution 1, shift-mute would ...

Graham, I have noticed one problem (or misunderstanding from side) with the 7780 extender.

I have defined VPT to use the AMP device, so that normal presses on mute and vol+/- act on my amplifier, regardless of the currently selected device. This works OK.
I have then defined a SAT device (Dev2 ...
