Well, I didn't fix it, but I made it work by learning the commands onto the channel keys. I still don't know why it won't unlock.
BTW: This is a JP1.3 remote. Is it compatible with JP1.x cable & programming?
Another BTW: Does anyone know the code for the "ON DEMAND" button?

Can't disable channel lock-Sci Atl 8300 remote

The remote for the Scientific Atlanta 8300 DVR has a default setting where it disables TV & VCR channel buttons. I have my remote programmed to TV code 0000 Sony, it doesn't control any of the channel change functions. I tried disabling it by Cable - Select - 2 blinks - 973 -2 blinks - Channel Down ...

Scientific Atlanta 8300 skip

I am not at home where my resources are. My daughter just got a Scientific Atlanta Explorer 8300 DVR (Time Warner Houston). Anyone know off the top of their head if there is a 30sec skip (or sometinng similar) function available?

Inexperienced as I am with this protocol, I had no idea what was "unorthodox" or "special and unusual circumstance". All I knew at the time that post was written was that it didn't work when I followed the Help instructions, and it did when I followed the Cap'ns advice.
Other things I discovered ...

I will get flamed for this. Found the whole problem. Designer of 1493 (downloaded from upgrade area) had put in some key moves on to the M3 and I had put one on L4 key. I didn't check the existing key moves and assumed that those keys were free to take a macro. That was why the macro never worked ...

Thanks for the prompt reply. I saw something about that arrow function, but I will have to look it up again. I have a lot of cleanup to do here (both from this and the house painting!), so I guess I'll get back to this in a day or 2. I will post the final IR and let you know.
Thanks again.

The FFwd key in the 1493 IS programmed as a 30 sec skip (efc 173), as opposed to the Fwd key, which is as you describe. So my use of FFwd is correct. I believe that you are correct in that left arrow may execute the same function, but I don't use it that way. I use this implementation to make remote ...
