Looks like thats what I will have to do. I am not much for waiting. thats the only reason I have tried the wav file incessantly. I will get a cable ordered this week. Thanks for all your help Rob.

All is lost. I checked the modem wiring again and did notice that one of the wires was disconnected from the board. I knew I had to be careful getting it back on but it seems as though I fried the modem. When I try to go to download now it just says error. So, I may be able to get it replaced under ...

Glue was all busted up around the modem but am quite sure that the wires are still attached to the board itself.

Just to let you know, the remote rattles. Something I had never noticed before. I will take a look at it and see if it I can re-solder the portion of the modem you spoke about.

Wondering why the upgrade file is the same size as the full image when exporting to wav? Is it supposed to be that way? Also, I can export to wav but when the file is played the remote blinks the light but never gets upgraded. Ultimately it sits there and listens to the whole wav file and then ...

Yes, Java is installed and updated.
Actually now when I export to wav it "acts"as though it has saved the file to my desktop but no upgrade.wav file ever appears.
I appreciate your help greatly.

ok got the protocol id thing straightened out. misread the information in the document. anyway, at this point the only problem I seem to be havin is exporting to wav. just get the error that says the file could not be created. so close!!!!!

I was reading the document you pointed me towards and I get everything it said except when you go back into IR and paste the device upgrade code into the protocol section in IR. I do that but the protocol id doesnt show up automatically below. I went looking for it and I believe that it is 0162 but ...

I am getting an error when trying to create the wav file. Gives me an "unable to write to C:\pathname\directv.wav)" Checkin setting now to make sure that I havent screwed something up.

It seems that the jp1 cable is the only way to get what I need done. I will look into getting one soon or maybe try upgrading over a land line phone like the tech support suggested. Kinda sucks when you have this great remote that does everything but control the main device in your home theater. one ...
