Sorry, I thought I could shortcut the process by just embedding the upgrade code in the post. Per your requset, here's the RM upgrade file:

Sure enough, the site even shows 0 bytes for the size of the file. Not real sure what happened there, but if 0 bytes were uploaded, you'd think you would get an error message. :?
Just tried again, using the same procedure as last time, and it seems to have worked:

RCA RTD258 HTIB Problem
Having a problem creating a device upgrade for a RCA RTD258 HTIB. As a test, I've learned some of the buttons from the OEM remote. Playing these back, they work fine. In IR, the buttons all appear to be decoded correctly. The protocol is identified as RCA, Device 12. However, when I create a device ...

Maybe I'm missing something, but it doesn't appear the protocol is ALWAYS present. For example, if I select the NEC1 protocol, then just as you say, the Upgrade protocol is there, just hidden. But if I select "Dish Network", which is the protocol I was originally trying to modify, it is not there ...

You are correct. It's right in the open in the protocol upgrade box below the device upgrade code; however, that box is only populated when the protocol isn't one of the ones built-in to the remote.
In this case, it didn't matter. But what would one do if (s)he wanted to tweak a built-in protocol ...

I was using X_Cancel because of the advice given in the readme file for the extender, which, paraphrased, states that if the above example were in a general purpose macro that might be called by other macros, you probably should make the last step X_Cancel. No biggie, if I don't need it, I don't ...
