Well, I've isolated it down to this:
I can get my RMIR file (w/ 5 macros) to upload to the remote successfully, but then I add one additional macro and upload again and it fails. Then I can delete the additional macro and it starts working again. I saved both RMIR files and I can repeat the results ...

3FG,
I looked a little deeper. It appears to simply not write correctly. When I download the data I wrote, the macros are messed up (not all of them are there and the keystrokes are changed). Sometimes if I disconnect and reconnect the remote it starts working (maybe a bad connection?). Reading the ...

writeRemote returned -1
I'm running RMIR/RemoteMaster 2.02 and trying to upload my setup into my RCA RCRP05BR remote using Tommy Tyler's JP1X flash interface.
It has worked successfully about 5-6 times, but then I started getting a message when I upload:
"writeRemote returned -1"
At first it was sporadic and I could ...

New remote and cable
I'm planning to buy a new remote and interface cable to do some JP1 stuff on Win7-64 bit.
Before I buy, can anyone confirm if this DIYGADGET cable works with this RCA remote on Win7-64bit?

Well, it sounds like I'm on the "fringe" by using the JP1 parallel interface on Win7-64. I'd like to use something more mainstream so I don't have issues. I think I'll go with USB.
Now I just have to decide if I should get Tommy's EEPROM interface and keep using my existing URC-8910 remote, or if I ...

Parallel Port JP1 on Win7-64bit?
A few years back (2006 or so) I successfully used the IR.exe program to configure my URC-8910 using the old style Parallel Port JP1 interface in my WinXP machine (at the time).
Now I need to update the programming, but I have Win7-64bit. I installed a PCI-Express parallel port card, but I can't get ...

IR thinks my URC-8910 is a URC-7550
I just bought a URC-8910 and a premade JP1 cable. I'm new to this JP1 stuff, but I'm a computer engineer, so I'm pretty comfortable with playing with this kind of stuff.
Here is my problem:
When I do "Download from Remote" using IR.exe, it incorrectly thinks my remote is a URC-7550.

Considering JP1 for the first time
I currently have a stereo system with all Sony components and a learning Sony remote which works pretty well. There are a few annoyances that are making me consider a JP1 remote. For example:
1. The discrete power-on codes in my remote are all preprogrammed, so they do not work with newer Sony ...
