I am happy to report that 'unclemiltie' sent me a custom upgrade that solved my problem! Also I had a stuck key from when I removed the cover and put it back on.

Thank you unclemiltie!

I did not ask, since I had searched the forum and had not run across any success stories for this remote.

But I still have the old remote if anyone wants me to try and restore it -- perhaps it would help someone else in the future if they make the mistake I did.

thank you for your interest.

Don't kill your RCRP05B remote like I did - FIXED!

Learn from my mistake -- be very careful when plugging in your home-made cable -- if you get it upside down it fries the remote.

Admittedly this was with a home-made cable. Perhaps with a purchased cable they are keyed to fit the opening in the housing.

For my new/replacement RCRP05B, I carefully ...

how to set up FAV / SCAN list on RCRP05B with extender?

Greetings,

I've search high and low and I just can't quite figure this one out...

May I set this up using RMIR or must I switch to the IR program?

I am using the most recent extender for the RCRP05B and my JP1.3 cable is working fine -- I can control the TV, PVR, and Receiver just fine.

So far ...

I was able to get the new remote basically talking to the TV, PVR, and Receiver, so I built new / modern cable for the 6131 (using Arduino) and also an FTDI cable for the RCA remote. Both are working, and I used RMIR to grab the contents of both remotes.

I used an extender in the old remote, and I ...

It can now also be found here in the file area .

Michael

I just tried this on my old 6131 and it seemed to work great -- all I did was to download the old remote using RMIR.

I was a little uncertain as to how to answer the question about which extender I had (from 2005), so I saved it a ...

Thanks that worked!

switching from 6131 to RCRP05B - is this approach reasonable

Greetings,

Back in 2005, I was very happy to use JP1 and an extender for my 6131, to control a Sony TV, Sony STR-DE995 receiver, and Panasonic DMR-E85H pvr.

Now we just bought a Vizio E320-A0 TV, and replaced our worn-out 6131 with the RCRP05B.

I have original OEM remotes for all equipment. I can ...

Greetings,

I built the prototype for this over the weekend, and it is working fine.

You can find the write-up, source code, and schematic here:

Greetings,

I just finished a new revision to a related project, which uses basically the same hardware. You can read more about it, and find a link to the schematic and software here:

Greetings,

Yes, both approaches are very interesting projects.

Just to expand on the 16F88-- I could supply free schematics and source code, or I could provide pre-programmed chips, or I could provide some sort of "kit".

As an example, you could purchase a pre-assembled board like this one for ...

Greetings,

If we could specify that you always use, say NEC1 codes, this sounds like an easy project to build with a picmicro. For example, the 16F88.

We could use the serial port to configure the unit, and then save the parameters in the built-in "eeprom" memory of the picmicro.

I could do it ...

1) Put the IRP understanding engine inside the universal remote (obviously much harder programming task than keeping that engine in a PC program). Then store all the protocols you want in the remote in IRP notation. That is much more concise than the relatively concise way UEI stores protocols ...

hardware fix for video toads?

Greetings,

I've been usng the 6131 with extender for the past year or so, and it is terrific!

But once in a while, someone can't resist the urge to physically turn the VCR on/off and confuse my 6131. Admittedly this is not a big problem-- if you know the trick, you can just hit an extra button on ...

I advise against that. Doing one protocol would be a lot easier than doing an IRP based general IR engine. But when you add the second protocol you won't have much in common with the first, so the effort will nearly double. Once you've done even the ten most common protocols you would find you've ...
