I guess I'm use to the "heavier" 8811 V3.3 extender which uses more memory out of the gate, probably due to more protocols being built into the V3.3 extender compared to the earlier V2 extender. I was just surprised to see almost 7.8K move/upgrade available when I first loaded the V2 extender and ...

That was the problem - thanks. I was using the $1815 rdf packaged with the 8811 extender V3.3 8K and needed to be using $ 1F95 . I found a 2002 rdf using $1F95 (in big6012eeprom.zip) which appears to load correctly. It significantly predates the $1815 rdf so I'll try and update it so it can be used ...

I'm back trying to install an 8K eeprom in an 8811. I was able to purchase 8K eeproms from Mouser.com (579-24AA64-I/P) and shoehorn one into a 8811 by removing the surface mount 2K eeprom and using small wire to pick up up the power, ground, clock, and data signals and run these wires to a "regular ...

I believe allocation of "move" versus "upgrade" space is set in the rdf file [edit] and there are corresponding changes that must be made in the extender code itself. A sample extract from an RDF file for the V3.3 extender for the 6011/8011/8811:

It sounds like adding the 8K eeprom to the 8810/8811s is beyond my skills, especially if it involves surface mount stuff (i.e. desoldering the existing 2K eeprom). I thought I had seen a few references in the past about the 8 8 1x with 8K but my earlier seaches and the information in the replies ...

8K eeprom in the 8810/8811 - how to ?
I've been using 8810/8811s with extender-3 for some time and really like the platform. I've outgrown the standard 2K memory due to some devices that consume substantial memory (Onkyo Receiver, DirecTV DVR, TiVo, X10-Hacked, etc.). Fortunately it looks like extender-3 supports 8K devices. Can someone ...

:D THE LAST L50 SUGGESTION FIXED IT! :D
The backlight works correct at 5.2V, it works correct at 6.4V. This is with two NOPs. I've been testing about an hour with normal backlight behavior. I checked both "bad" 8811s as well as a "good" one. Also tested on my green backlit 8810w.
The key/protocol ...

I tried the mods Hal suggested. The BackLight still occasionally repeats but never more than 2 or 3 cycles (use to get 2-6 cycles of my ~5 second timer with 6 being more common). I think most people could live with this BackLight behavior since you no longer have 30 second sequences of backlighting ...

I did try correcting the "AdvCodeAddr=$401..$79X" and it didn't help (I do realize this counter needs to be correct though). I finally opened the second 8811 (bought five) and to my dismay it worked fine with Extender V3.1. So did the 3rd and 4th. The 5th had the same problem as the first one. I ...

Yes, the extender continues to work fine on the new 8811 even though the red BACKLIGHT acts erratic. My older 8810W remote and it's green BACKLIGHT behaves normal regardless (i.e. Extender V3.1, V3.2, etc.). The reason I mentioned the backlight colors is I saw another post where Rob indicated newer ...

I've been in the process of migrating from the Cinema7 platform over to 8810/8811 using Extender V3.1 which I love. For my development, I used a cheap 8810w I picked up at WalMart a year or so ago. Now that I completed the migration and my Cinema7's are wearing out, I decide to haul off and order ...
