How to test a backlight transformer?

Is there a way to test a backlight transformer (in a 15-2116) using a digital multimeter? My backlight quit working and if possible I would like to determine if it's the transformer or the EL sheet.

I've opened the case and found the transformer firmly glued in place and the solder points look good ...

I just wanted to let all of you know that I'm not ignoring your posts, I'm just not able to work on this right now. I'll try to get back to it soon and I'll let you know if I make any progress.

Thanks again for all your help.

No, because I don't think the other extenders support the use of LKP functions. If I'm wrong about that I will try the others.

I'm afraid I'm gonna have to throw in the towel on this one. I'm convinced that their must be something wrong with extender-5.

My remote works just fine un-extended. It even works with extender-5 so long as I don't have all my devices loaded at the same time. I've started from scratch and loaded ...

I took another look at the IR file. 4 JVC devices?

Actually there's 3. One of those TV upgrades is necessary because of a single function that uses a different device # than all the rest. That's one that threw me for a loop a few months ago. You can read about that here: http://www.hifi-remote ...

Me too!

Thanks to all who have looked into this for me. It's sure got me stumped as well. When I get home from work tonight I'm gonna keep digging into it and see if I can figure it out. Maybe its something as simple as putting a new set of ...

Problem with LKP using 15-1994 Ext-5

After having success with EXT-3 on my 15-2116 I decided to try EXT-5 on my 15-1994. I used the same basic design as my 2116 but ran into a couple of problems. The first problem was that my TV power wouldn't work. I fixed that my adding the JVC 0034 Long Duration protocol from the file section ...

Thanks guys! I think I'm beginning to get it now.

Besides the explanation of the “mistake” in my original post, there was one other hint that made me aware that I must be doing something wrong (or at least unnecessary). In macro after macro I kept running into the 15 command limit which forced me ...

Confused about DEV & SET with 15-2116 EXT-3

I've finally made the decision to plunge deeper into the JP1 thing and give extenders a try. So far, I'm liking it! At this point I’m close to having my remote (15-2116) doing everything I want but because I want to understand the “how comes” and “why fors”, I thought I would stop now and ask a few ...

"...I believe that JVC has been pretty consistent with its discretes..."

Yeah, I think your right, but I don't understand why the discretes don't work on their DVD player. My TV and VCR are both JVC units and the same EFC codes, 248-on & 247-off, work on both of those :?

Oh well, the Play-Stop ...

If the standard JVC discrete codes don't work, then you're probably SOL. Have you tried looking for workarounds? For example, does the PLAY button turn the unit on? If so, how about this...

1) Discrete ON macro...
DVD, PLAY, STOP

2) Discrete OFF macro...
DVD, PLAY, POWER

Sweet! I was just about ...
