I've stayed with Tivo by leaving DirecTV for FIOS. I despise the house-branded DVRs THAT MUCH. So now I'm revisiting my JP1 programming to get all the new gear setup again.

Right now a single tuner Tivo works nicely off a basic FIOS settop box. I'll know next week how well the cablecards work in a ...

From looking inside the remotes the RF circuit looks like it's directly connected to the same one that drives the IR. Thus there's no way to tell it to use only IR or RF, they both get the same signals.

Ah, that makes sense. The trick is wading through all the JP1 stuff just to get to what I'm after. It's truly amazing how much has been done with JP1. It's a bit hard to decide just how much one "needs to know" to get where they want to go!

RS 15-2117 remotes with multiple Tivos

What's necessary to reprogram a 15-2117 device to control 'numbered' Tivo units? As in, I've got two Tivo units in a rack and each is set to it's own "number". The Tivo peanut remotes are programmed accordingly and work as expected. I realize the 2117 won't have enough memory to 'learn' these. Is ...

While the 6011 is a nice remote, it's still rather full-sized. Is there any sort fo programmable remote that's closer to a credit card sized device? I think the keychain types might be a little too small to have enough buttons. A credit card remote with programmability would be great, anyone make ...

Is there a tiny remote that has JP1?

Does anyone make a slim remote that has JP1 capability? I'd like to use a slim remote but would need to reprogram what IR codes it sends. It wouldn't need to have all that many buttons beyond the usual power, volume and channel.

Anyone know of such a remote?

Alas it's not going to be that easy. The way the ur47a enables the RF board is different than the 15-2117. The UR47a seems to just pull an ENable line high and send away. The 15-2117 appears to keep the RF on for all signals.

I can't devote the time to figure it out just now but the schematics for ...

It would seem like we could do the same thing with a JP1 remote, use the x10 remote daughterboard and have both a universal RF and IR remote. Since we will now be able to analyze the RF signal we could use Protocol Builder and create a protocol upgrade. I believe they operate ~400 MHz so it may be ...

Which other RF receiver do you have? An X10 unit? Which one?

I'm trying to get an overall picture of how the various remote receivers handle their signals.

Ideally I'd just get on that could be retuned to the 430MHz signal the 15-2117 remotes send. That'd be the simplest way to make it all work.

What about changing the transmitter frequency? The xmitter in the 15-2117 has a tuning pot on it. I'd wonder about being able to tune it to either 418 or 433.92 MHZ, that used by Pronto or ATI remotes?

Or, alternatively, tuning the receiver to 430 instead? It'd probably be better long-term to ...

Ok, according to the FCC website it's indeed 430Mhz.

So is it as trivial as putting a 430Mhz receiver in the mr26a? Or in some other existing PC-to-USB receiver like a usb-uirt or something?

Im eventually going to build a HTPC which might be in a different room then the TV is. So im gonna need an RF remote to control that... Which means Im going to end up having two remotes.
The 15-2117 is an RF remote, you could use this to control the HTPC.

The 15-2117 sends IR locally and RF to a ...

Back to my original idea, it seems to be that if you already have something like the Streamzap which lets you control your PC using an IR remote, I can't image that it would be that hard to make some sort of connector that runs from the IR blaster output into the Streamzap box.

Yeah, that's a ...

Why? Adding I/O logic to the base station would probably be a lot more complicated than adding an input to an existing USB or serial device.

While I've seen that folks have taken the RF 'puck' transmitter out of one style remote and added to another, I'm curious if anyone's done it on the receiver ...
