All guesses here, but I am surprised that a manufacturer would ship bad units. So all of these are manufactures defects or product returns that they are removing from stock? They must figure that the cost to fix them outweighs the cost to just build a new one.

So does he your friend have some good ...

I have not worked on any cable boxes but I will give ya my opinion.

Have you tried to just probe the video output with a scope and work your way backwords? I am not sure how many layers those boards are, but it might not be that difficult. If I remember correctly, the video signal should be an ...

I was trying to edit my last message before you posted but oh well.

I just double checked and I was incorrect for saying that.
Both command centers are interchangeable.
But for some reason, the OFA command center does not have any noise problems.

Sorry for the confusion :)

Does not appear to.

Now I plugged in my old command center and the light does faintly blink every now and then. The new RS command center must have a higher gain to try and pick up the RF signal.

Makes me wonder if there is just a generic op-amp gain circuit where I could adjust the feedback ...

Well no matter where I put my command center, I am hosed.

My old RF OFA (9800?) did not have that problem, so guess I will be returning the 2117 :( and going back to that remote.

sigh...

Are you saying you are afraid of pins 2 and 3 shorting together after you are finished? If so just use some heat shrink tubing.

Not sure if a book will help much on soldering, do a few google searches for the basics. Best was to get old circuit boards and practice removing and installing the ...

This is odd. My parents bought the 2117 rf package and their's does not blink at their house or at mine!

Oddly enough though, when they took it back home it blinked and I thought I broke it. They messed with the antenna and placement and it stopped???? Mine keep doing this no matter where I put it ...

Heya,

When you plug in your IR/UHF box into the wall, do you see the LED constantly blinking? Mine is always blinking and goes brighter when a button on the remote is pushed.

I took the batteries out of the remote to try and elimate the bad remote possiblity.

Interesting enough, when this is ...

So is the extender automatic or do you have to activate the extender?

If you have to activate it, is that each time or can I do it once and forget about it (excluding a power reset)?

Just a FYI, I went to Radio Shack and the shelf price for the 2117 was $49.99, but for some reason when they scanned it in it showed up as $29.99.

I double checked the reciept and the item number was 152117 so not sure if this is everywhere or if I just got lucky, but great price.

I already own the 9800 and like what it can do thanks to this group.

I didn't realize that radio shack carried rf remotes (15-2117, 15-1995).

I'll look into them before making my decision.
