Re: Web site issues

We are back, well mostly back. The forum and the wiki are both back, but not the file section. That's going to take a lot more work to accomplish.

If there's anyone here that is comfortable coding in PHP and knows how to modernize old code, I could use your help.

Hey Randy, that's great, there are lots of units from that era that don't have remote sensors but do have a jack where you're supposed to connect then to the main AV receiver in order to make them remote controllable. I think my old Kenwood system was like that.

So, can you give more details on ...

I've had to replace my amp/receiver recently, and I was able to pick up a Sony STR-K870P from the thrift store for $15, the only problem with it is, the display is dim. Oh, and it doesn't have quite enough inputs for everything, so my VCR is not currently connected, but like, when was the last time ...

I was curious about this CD player, as I'd never heard of it, so here's an online review:

It's good to know that some people are still using CDs, as am I. If anyone is in the market for a CD or DVD player, you can usually find them at thrift stores for ...

OBCs 0 and 15 are the only gaps in the OBC sequence, so I would test those first, then test anything over 25.

The new forum software requires at least version 7.0 of PHP, so when I am installing or working on it, I'll have to upgrade the php, which will cause this old forum to stop working completely, so if you see that, that's why.

The version of php here is 5.4 and the current version is 8.4. I was able to upgrade to 5.6 ok, but when I tried 7.0, the forum failed to load and there were no error messages that would give me a clue where to start.

I have downloaded phpbb 3.3.15 and will try installing it. They do give advice on ...

I won't be able to send an email because I don't have a distribution list that includes everyone that's signed up, but I think you'll notice when the site completely stops working. My ISP is forcing me to upgrade my PHP version, or they'll start charging me an out-of-warranty surcharge. When I do ...

Yes, extenders do augment the original firmware, because they do things like, allowing you to assign functions to restricted buttons (like the device buttons, the SETUP button, the LIGHT button, etc). They also add features like fast macros, Toadtog, LKP, etc. But none of them change the button maps ...

So Larry, do you get the difference between upgrades and keymoves now? RMIR blurs that line by programming keymoves on your behalf, which is where your confusion with un-official buttons comes in.

Also, as Jim was saying, if you download from the remote, rather than opening your last RMIR file, you ...

Sorry Larry, I can't tell what it is that you're not understanding, and I'm running out of different ways to explain it all. Perhaps someone else can take a crack at it now.

Are the functions that have not been assigned to unshifted keys physically stored in the remote, or not?
Short answer: no, not in the way that you think.

Long answer: each remote defines what buttons are part of each device mode, that's backed into the remote and it's not something we can change ...
