drone,
I am successfully running RemoteMaster v2.03 Alpha 28 build 16 under Java 8 (1.8.0_31) under Yosemite OS X 10.10.2 with the FTDI FT232R driver (with a cheap Chinese USB adapter).

There is a thread on that: http://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=15872

Dave & Graham
Thanks for your help. I have made good progress using your suggestions.
1. I put aside the added complexity of Mac/Parallels and used my Thinkpad with WinXP. RMIR connected to the remote without problems.
2. I successfully logged into the EZ-RC.com website which immediately upgraded ...

Hey Graham,
Everything seems to be matched:
RDF: USB8006 (Nevo C2).rdf
PID: 8006
VID: 06e7
Xsight UEI

I think I have too many layers of abstraction here:
RMIR build 16 running in
Java 8 running in
Windows XP SP3 running in
Parallels 9 running in
OS X 10.10 Yosemite

I think I should just dig out ...

Dave, I agree with you that using EZ-RC to get an understanding of the remote would help me. That's why I started there, but no luck so far.

Where I am now is that I can communicate with the Nevo C2 on the Mac side with RMIR with no problems. I just need to understand the remote.

On the Windows ...

Thanks Graham. I'm glad to know that.

Is it possible that you could point me to some information on how to handle Activities and Assists? In RMIR, I have the tabs and windows for Activity Functions and Sound/Video Assists, but it isn't immediately obvious how to use them.

Thanks, Bruce

Dave, thanks for replying. Your question has me thinking that maybe the problem is related to my computer setup more than to the remote. I will try to sort that out. I'm on a Mac running Yosemite.

I don't know what the Conduit program is.

When I go in Safari to the EZ-RC website, where I do have ...

mdavej,

(If you are still checking this thread) I am attempting to setup a Nevo C2 (signature usb8006) which I assume is similar to Xsight. The EZ-RC website doesn't seem responsive and says The Nevo line of control hardware has been discontinued and is no longer supported
I have the RDF and can ...

WallStreet
The URC-1060 has a fully implemented key-move capability. So, as mdavej has pointed out to all of us, you can accomplish a lot on this remote using key-move.

It means that you can use all of the keys shifted, in effect having 48 phantom keys. And you can make up any additional device key ...

Wallstreet,
Several of us are working to provide better support of the URC-1060BC3 and have made some progress. A couple of weeks ago, you couldn't upload any upgrade to that MaxQ remote.

As mdavej said, a 6-pin header plus a little piece of shrink tubing make a connector that works well on the recessed pins.

mdavej,
That is a very early attempt at the RDF and it doesn't invoke the Special Protocol DSM of the 8820.

Graham
The 258203 (URC-8820BC1.3).rdf distributed with build 14 of Alpha 28 does not invoke the DSM Special Protocol, so RMIR doesn't have that tab, and it mis-handles DSM segments, treating them as Macros.

Code: Select all

SpecialProtocols
DSM=Internal:0

I'm using the latest FTDI driver for OS X which is v2_2_18 but the actual release date for that driver was 2012-08-10. System Report identifies the USB cable as FT232R Product ID 6001, Vendor ID 0403.

For those interested, I am using this low-cost Chinese USB to serial cable that works fine with JP1.3 and JP2 and with the URC-8820 5-pin socket connector. I am using official drivers from the FTDI website. The usb connector has Tx and Rx leds.
