Thanks for the reply & photos.

I had to use a screwdriver for most of the first edge because my plastic "pry bar" wasn't doing the job. Got it opened & cleaned the goop off of some key pads. Hopefully that will last a year or two. It seems eventually the conductive material does wear away. Have to ...

RCA RCRP05B disassembly ?

A couple buttons on my RCA RCRP05B remote are intermittent in operation & I want to open it up to clean the contact surfaces. But I'm having a heck of a time getting it open. I've done this with other remotes but am having a heck of time finding a "weak spot" to start prying. Any suggestion on where ...

How do you backup a JP1 remote?

I’ve read through some threads & it seems I need either IR.exe, or RMIR.

From what I understand, IR.exe also needs an RDF file & DecodeIR.dll. And somewhere I read that it does not work with newer remotes. Will IR.exe work with an RCA RCRP05B remote? If I’m just backing up the remote is the RDF ...

My remote stopped working last night.

Two days ago the Macro 1 button did not work unless I pushed it very firmly & I thought it must have somehow gotten dirty inside. Then last night the remote would not control my WMC HTPC. However the Volume control which was locked to the AVR did function ...

The remote stopped working again. I went to use it last night & none of the device buttons lit up. Removed a battery, pressed #2 button while re-installing battery got it working again. I then put in new batteries & will see if that makes a difference.

What would be the advantage of using that WMC software versus the 1972 device code built into the RCA remote?

I presume a JP1 cable would be needed, which I do not have.

I am using a WMC7 IR receiver & want to turn the CC On/Off in OTA recordings & not DVD subtitles, if that makes a difference.

Device code 1972 does work with WMC.

To turn On the CC requires the following button presses:
Info, >, >, >, OK, OK, Exit. Sometimes another ">" is needed because some ...

I found EFC 048 & 080 listed under the 1972 device code with works for me. However 080 is listed for a few different functions.

I'm curious, where did you find the EFC 040 code?

Based on your earlier posts, I gather that at present you traverse a menu to get CC. In order to get CC with a single IR command, the unit being controlled needs to respond to such a discrete signal. So, what is the model number of the unit (a TV?) which you are trying to control? Do you have a ...

When I think of extender what comes to mind is using an Xbox extender for an HTPC.

I read through a couple Stickies in the Extender sub-forum. While a extender sounds very powerful it seems like overkill for my simple needs of programming a macro, or just programming a key for closed captioning ...

I don't have an extender.

I did not think that you could assign a macro to any key. But due to mistake & much to my surprise, I inadvertently assigned a macro to the Info key. That made me think I could assign one to just about any key.

If possible, it would be nice to assign a CC code directly to ...

I should have looked back here first because you already had the answer. Anyway I just came across this since my original posting so I'll post the link anyway because it has a lot of commands.

Macro Programming the RCA RCRP05B ?

The RCA owner’s manual states for programming a macro key “To add another macro, repeat steps 1 through 5”.

It also states “Programming more than five macros on the same macro key overwrites previous settings”.

This sounds like you can have 5 macros on the same key. If so, how do you access the ...

I use Energizer alkaline batteries & they do not rattle. If the remote acts up again I'll swap batteries.

The batteries are not very old. I did temporarily swap them with new ones when problems first started happening. For the heck of it I compared the old batteries with the new ones under load & they were all the same. So I ended up putting the "old" ones back in.

I'm not doubting that weak batteries ...
