eferz - Thanks for going to all that trouble. But, looking at the function list, I see it's the same as with the original remote, and as I described in my original post.

It doesn't have discrete input functions for the external inputs. It has the same InputTuner function that toggles external ...

Thanks! I'll check them out.

BTW, what is an ICT file? I'm not familiar with that.

Discrete Input Codes for Panasonic HTIB (SC/SA-BT230)

This particular HTIB has a combination of discrete and next buttons to choose input: BD/DVD/SD, iPod, and Tuner/Ext.

The first two switch the device directly to BD/DVD/SD or iPod. But, the Tuner/Ext button scrolls between the internal FM Tuner and 4 external audio inputs.

(Even more complex, the ...

It's a valid complaint about Panasonic's PAL/NTSC limitation, alright. But, to say there is no point in unlocking the region limitation is simply incorrect.

It's odd that they do this, while making it so easy to remove the region limitations. But, as I've learned over the years, there is often very ...

I see the point in doing it, as it allows me to watch Japanese DVD's, which are Region 2 NTSC, on my Panasonic region 1 player.

Also, people from other non-region 1 countries that use NTSC, such as S.Korea, Taiwan, Philipines, Mexico, Bolivia, Columbia, Venezuela, Peru, Chile, etc, but who reside ...

You need to use a JP1-capable remote, JP1 software, and a JP1 cable to program the remote.

All of that info is available on the forums.

20 bucks each? Sweet!

Right now, I'm using a URC 8820 in the LR, and a RS 2117 in the bedroom. (My wife still uses a 2116 in the LR, as well.) We both like the 2116/2217 better than the 1994. But, I like the 8820 better than the 2116/2117, for the most part. (If only it had backlighting!)

I tried ...

I have a 1994 I don't use anymore. Actually, I may have two.

Of course, the best way would be a Combo protocol that could handle both in the same device, so that one could use a single device upgrade file.

But, your idea seems like a relatively easy workaround until the above can be accomplished, that is, if it can be accomplished.

If I keep my JP1/1.x ...

BTW, has anyone figured out how to make it so the Denon protocol and Denon-K protocol commands can work together, using some sort of "combo" protocol?

Thanks Binky! I'll check it out. (Although, I will most likely be getting rid of the 8820, if the Harmony works out.)

EDIT: After I cleared the remote, and re-learned the commands, they downloaded and appeared in the learned commands section of the new IR app.

Also, the changes to the Denon Combo ...

I believe I tried that, but it didn't work.

Mark - Please post back if it works for you.

ps- I was thinking about the Harmony route too- I wish they would let you mess around with configuring a remote on their site BEFORE buying one to figure out if it will work for you! I did my research, and it appears it will work just fine. And, any codes it doesn't have in its database can be ...

I just learned the commands directly to the 8820 from the Denon remote, as a temporary workaround. Unfortunately, IR.exe won't let me download from the 8820 after doing that.

My permanent fix was to buy a Harmony 550 from Amazon for $66. I'm tired of jumping through hoops with the JP1/JP1.x stuff ...

I will try it. Thanks. In the mean time, I just used the built-in UEC code for Denon, and learned a few missing functions. It's been pretty decent like that. But, of course, I'd lprefer to program via JP1.

BTW, the reason I haven't responded is that I couldn't access the forum until today.
