The main issue with that cable is that it is a true RS232 voltage level cable. Unfortunately, JP1 remotes need much lower voltage level and the signals are all inverted relative to RS232 standard.
You could in theory, fabricate an adapter to convert the +/- 6V RS232 levels to the needed 3.3V-5V ...

Having said that, I consider MikeT's solution for the Arduino (which is contained in IrScrutinizer 1.1.0, danke Dir Michael!!) as vastly superior to the IrWidget idea, much more accurate and reproducible captures.[/quote]

Thanx for your posting. Summarizing in my own words: everything works, sending as well as caputuring. It is just that the device + IrScrutinizer hangs after some time. This happens both on sending and on capturing, and seems to be happen independently of communication speed.

Perhaps I should've mentioned that my programming skills are nil. Hardware design I can do, but not programming. Any cool hardware designs that require someone else to write the software, would just go begging around here since we see comments about finding a combo device as useful as a toothbrush ...

(2) a PIC or ATMEL processor that does it all, in which case we could go with the HID driver. Either approach would be cost competitive with using the Delcom chip. This doesn't sound like rocket science to me, but then it never does to those who don't know how to do it. Major issue: Flash uploading ...

What does this mean?
I think what is being asked is if anyone is interested in writing code for Arduino platform that would interface to a JP1 eeprom remote, to take the place of a proper JP1 cable.
It could be done. Probably the easiest way to do that would be to make the Arduino emulate a JP1.x ...

Re: USB OTG infrared transmitter/receiver and IR Widget-Andr
Are there any plans to make the IR Widget work under Android with infrared logger which logs infrared signals (and lets you note the particular function on each signal) as well as let you note the manufacturer and model of the remote controlled device?
The software to record what the widget ...

Re: Why infrared receiver modules have a normally high outpu
I found the reason why the vast majority of infrared receiver modules have a normally high output when no signal and/or carrier is detected is because the output of the receiver is usually connected to an interrupt line (in many cases, active low) on a microcontroller.
So when constructing an ...
