UPDATE.
The first computer was a Dell Latitude D630. I just tried an IBM Thinkpad T42p with the same results, "Failed to open JP1.x interface"

Thanks for your reply. I agree that the controller is a JP1.3. The Interface Place cable has an inline, pin 5 disconnect that I have disconnected per those instructions. (I tried connecting it as well and received the same error.) I have two of the Atlas remotes and the error shows up with both. I'm ...

Failed to open JP1.x interface in IR
Hi,
I'm trying a JP1.X serial cable on an Atlas 1056 remote (both just purchased) with IR.exe. I have it connected to the serial port (which works properly for an externally-connected modem), the remote connected with the red stripe at pin 1 (batteries installed), and have "JP1.x (Serial or USB ...

Re: New style boards, JP1P, JP1S, JP1X
I have for sale 2 each of the new style boards, populated and connectorized. See here for a pic of what they look like. As I recently moved, and I can not yet find my cable, heatshrink, backshells, or 6-pin connectors, I have not completed them. Some people may prefer it this way, so they can ...

Yeah, I did, but he said he's only making USB cables now. I didn't want to spend the extra money for USB since I have systems with parallel and serial ports on them begging to be used again...Mark Pierson wrote:I'd contact Tommy Tyler about one of his new cables. He's the JP1 interface guru!

WTB: Cable for JP1.3 remote
I'm looking for a cable to connect to a JP1.3 remote, Atlas 1056 OCAP. I've seen some suppliers sites listed, but haven't seen any JP1.3 specific cables. I can do either serial or parallel. Thanks!

As I said earlier, I am an IT geek. :) I used to develop on embedded microcontrollers for lighting control systems in C and Windows interfaces in VC++. I'm not familiar at all with how to develop anything yet for the remotes, but am definitely excited to give it a try. Based on everyone's comments ...

Thanks for the lengthy explanations! Is there a list showing which remotes are JP1, .2, and .3?
I really don't need the RF and would like to get a remote that's going to be around for a few more years (probably not the 8910 then). I really don't even need the JP1 capability, but am tired of buying ...

Which remote?
Hi,
I'm new to JP1 and haven't even purchased a remote yet. I don't know which to buy, but would like to get something that is somewhat future-proof and easy for the family to use. I'm a techie, so want to be able to program it when I want/need to. I have a $15 gift card at Best Buy, but don't have ...
